I thought the same but someone said his first year is already burned because of his age.
That said, I think any kid wants to play in the NHL as soon as possible and he won't care that it's a nothing game.
Play all the kids - Wolf, Pelletier, Coronato, Duehr, Zary.

I would rather not bring up Zary or Wolf and subject them to this culture even if its for 1 game.
Just play out the last game with the cornerstones Lucic, Lewis maybe call up Rooney. Put in Stone.

Yeah sometimes you need to take a step back and wonder if the team is actually bad or if it's just a bad season.
I still don't think this is a bad roster TBH. They lacked chemistry and execution. Some questionable coaching decisions. Poor goaltending. And in the end the percentages caught up to them.
30 one goal losses
7-17 in overtime/SOs (pretty remarkable TBH - even 12-12 and they are easily in the playoffs)
Led the league in posts/crossbars hit
32nd ranked shooting percentage (8.8%)
27th ranked save percentage (.889%)
They finished 3rd in expected goals for at 55.1% in all situations.
Looking back at the past 10 seasons and these Flames are the first team I can see that finished with a 55%+ xGF and missed the playoffs. Only one other team finished top 3 in the league and missed the playoffs (17-18 Carolina Hurricanes).
Now maybe that's not indicative of the true talent of the roster, or maybe it is, but really going back to that Oilers series this team has been cursed. The team actually worked pretty hard all season, but got absolutely no reward for it, and I think that's why that entire team is so frustrated right now.

I don't mind letting Lucic and Lewis play, it is likley their last game ever, the game will mean nothing to anyone but them.

Florida's not Edmonton. Wanna cheer on Tkachuk, Bennett, and Lomberg with me?

This article here I saw this morning sums it up. The shooting % could have moved the needle but it was well earned playing the Sutter system a lot of volume from the outside but not dangerous.
https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article...-shot-quality/
They are quoting a NHL funded advanced stats company.

What did you gain from it?
I had fun this season and with one game left I’m hoping to see some young guys and have one last thing to cheer for before the long wait until September begins.
You and other “negative” posters talk about how you want to win to cheer for a contender or a team that has a shot at the cup. That’s not unique, who doesn’t? But at the end of the day, I enjoyed myself, you didn’t, and we both ended up in the same spot cheering for the same team. So what did you gain?
|
I think there needs to be more "noise" or disdain from the fan base. We keep filling those seats and buying the merch, then nothing changes. It's exactly the reason we signed these big names in the off-season...to keep us competitive. And sure enough, we were competitive to the end, and the dome was full.
Before the madhouse, the fans there were just mad. Ownership took notice and rebuilt. That doesn't happen here b/c we're always "just competitive". I'm sick of it, and I don't know how everyone isn't feeling the same.
Nothing changes if nothing changes.

Much like you don't understand the need to rehash decades of (crappy) results, I don't understand the perpetual positive posters, such as yourself. I don't understand how you guys can't look at the bigger picture as to what the problems may be with the franchise.
Don't think for a second these positive posters wouldn't have been all over the GDTs "patting themselves on the back" had we made the postseason. They're far worse than the negative posters in my opinion.

When I couldn't take any more of the Gulutzan years I quit watching because it seemed like a silly thing to do something I didn't enjoy. I certainly didn't log onto a fan message board and lambaste fans for having the gall to cheer for the team still. The time away did me good and now I enjoy games for what they are. Maybe it would do the same for some others.

Didn't he say you "would" be wrong? Not you were wrong?
No need to apologize, I never called for one. Just said it was cringy to me, still is.
So now we can't look at the big picture because we don't see it like you? There's another step. So patting yourself on the back and now only you have correct vision!
Said all along back patting is cringy to me in all forms. I'd find the victory lap for winning crowd cringy too ... but less annoying because this is sports/entertainment. I don't mind those getting slapped for being negative anywhere near as off putting because why are you even here if you don't see any future in the franchise? I personally like hope. It's fun!

GOAT!

Down the stretch, while "fighting" for a playoff spot...
Lost to Arizona in OT, 1 point
Lost to Chicago in regulation time, 0 points
Lost to Vancouver in SO, 1 point
Lost to Nashville (without their top 3 players) in SO, 1 point
Literally 8 points handed to us on a silver platter, and we said "no thanks, I'll just take 3."

Wasn't the team 32nd in royal road attempts this season?
The fact that they are told to play such hard nosed north-south hockey tells me that coaching is having an impact on these numbers and it's kind of hiding how poor of a team they really are.
Cross ice passes just weren't part of the team's strategy this year.

This has been a big sticking point for me this year. They’ve looked miserable ever since their first loss.
Can’t remember what coach it was that was on Flames Talk last week but he said the mantra this year was “everyday we act like we lost the day before”. I get this is supposed to be a motivation tactic to always be pushing and never let the ego get over inflated, but confidence is everything in pro sports and you need some level of ego to go along with that.
From an outside view it was clear the locker room was toxic and you’ll never win that way. The no fun Flames proved that this year.

i think i must have been excluded from the mass email where literally everyone who watches or works in hockey decided in unison in 2022 that "royal road" was just a thing we would all be saying now. isnt that a mario kart course?

If there's anything I learned after the 2019 and 2022 playoffs, it's always bet against the Flames when they're favored

So… stop watching and following the team?
Direct your noise and disdain to the team, not to people just trying to enjoy something that is pure, meaningless entertainment?
Why aren’t people sick of it? I don’t know, that’s sports. There’s always next season. The Flames aren’t planning their season based on how many games I watch, and I like hockey, so I’m just going to keep watching and enjoying myself. Because maybe there comes a time when we don’t have an NHL team, and that seems worse than having a middling NHL team, so I don’t see the point in wasting my time complaining about something I can’t change when I could just spend that time enjoying myself.
Do you, but as a fan, lashing out at people just trying to have fun because you can’t seems weird:

Presumably when a “positive” poster is patting themselves on the back, it’s because the Flames are succeeding, and everyone is happy because we are all fans of the team and it’s hard to imagine it bothering literally anyone.
When a “negative” poster is patting themselves on the back, it’s because the Flames are failing, which seems bizarre for a fan of the team to do, and somewhat ill-advised to do when everyone is already disappointed.

I guess. I’m wrong about hockey predictions so often that I don’t think I’ve ever had the pleasure lol. Must be quite the thrill to stop yourself from enjoying the sport just to experience it.
