We can’t keep doing this!

That's why you have to have a plan and set an expectation on organizational behaviors. Even of you are in the playoff mix, you still trade all your pending UFA's by the deadline. These guys have delivered next to nothing in results this far for the team. So don't get tricked into thinking they suddenly will. They are not elite players and will be overplayed good players. The type of thing that results in a team that alternates between first round loss and miss the playoffs.
But in 17 seasons since the lockout this team has not figured this out yet. So I get why everyone thinks it will happen again. The track record is exactly this.

Treliving's contract is done. He either gets multiple years or none. Hopefully Sutter resigns/retires though I think that's wishful thinking and he'll be back.

I get that talk is cheap, and internet message board talk even cheaper than that, but if Sutter is back I'm not. Just not worth it.

I agree. I've always liked Tre but I think it's time they part ways. I'm sure he would like a fresh start with an organization that doesn't have as much ownership meddling as well.

This team is bad. We are missing playoffs, book it.
Not only are we not good, we’re also not exciting to watch…like, who on this team is actually an exciting player to watch? Someone that puts you on the edge of your seat? Literally no one.

You know they are going to run this whole mess back again next year right? Minus the UFA's although I can see Sutter wanting Lewis and Ritchie back for another go.

I predicted this months ago, as did others, and was shunned by the positivity mob.
Do we want to look up all the posts during the recent run from these same people posting something along the lines of "where is (so and so) today?! Haven't seen him post in a while!" Where are you in reply to those posts Bingo? Seems pretty victory-lappy to me too...
Fans have every right to be pissed off with this franchise. We're mediocre to the core. I'd love to have been wrong about my prediction, but I wasn't. The Flames are predictably mediocre almost every season.

I cringe when I see anyone pat themselves on the back about anything to be honest.
Just my opinion, but it's not a good look.
A person that's pessimistic about pretty much everything is certainly going to be right once in a while.
Not sure if rubbing everyone's faces in it when their team just got eliminated is the way to go.
You like to talk opposites ... is it rubbing it your face when the team wins? And if so isn't there something a little odd about being on the other side of the fence and still cheering for that team?

Every once in a while, or almost every season since 1989...?
As for your last point...I imagine almost every negative poster on here wants the best for this franchise. We just believe the direction this team is in is not in the best interest for the franchise. We want a team that has a chance to win the ultimate prize. I can't say I've felt we had a good shot at that since maybe 08-09? And that was short-lived. This team needs to stop plugging holes. It leads to mediocrity.
So no, I don't think there's anything odd about it. I struggle to cheer for a team that has no shot at winning the cup. I'd like to believe in "the direction" we're taking. I don't see a path to the cup anywhere close. Sure I still would have liked to see some playoff hockey, but ultimately, I knew where this was gonna end.

Personally I don't have a problem dissecting a failed season and looking at what went wrong.
Some blame Markstorm.
Some blame Sutter.
Some blame the new forwards.
Some assign a mix.
But I've never understood that need to rehash decades of results and at the same time also put shade on the future first round draft pick coming up.
Like honestly?
This season sucked.
We've always sucked.
We will always suck.
That's not adding a whole lot to the conversation in my mind.
Add in patting yourself on the back about it and like I said ... cringe. (saw you did it again on this page)

While the Ritchie decision blows away what Sutter has been preaching his entire coaching career to rely on your star players.. at least his shot attempt was decent.
That Kadri shoutout attempt had already broken me. Like wtf was that.

The fact that Nashville sold off solid assets at the deadline, dealt with major injuries to their core, brought up kids and gave them opportunity, and now have a slim chance to make the playoffs (ahead of the Flames).. is absolutely unreal. I hope Nashville gets lucky and sneaks in, what a great story that would be for them and a great slap in the face to our own short-sighted management group.
I feel like it's been glaringly obvious to the majority of the fandom (especially here on CP) since about December that we were in for a rough season, with very slim playoff chances and we should get a few assets back at the Deadline. But no, the narrative from the GM, Fan960, etc. was "we don't want to take away from our team right now", "we are still in this thing", just classic Flames to let pride and ego get in the way of capitalizing on a chance to get some picks while also opening up spots for the young guys to play down the stretch.. which may have been exactly the kind of energy infusion we needed heading into that final playoff push (ala Nashville). Woof. Garbage bag day can't come soon enough.
Also, to everyone who stuck with this team down to the bitter end and believed they would get it together and go on a miracle run, I applaud you. That was one of the most frustrating, flavorless seasons of the Flames I can remember right from goaltending all the way to our lack of high-end skill. Really looking forward to seeing some changes within the organization but for right now, I think I'll take a break from anything Flames related for a while.
Look forward to chatting with you guys around the draft!

I simplify my breakdown of this season as no gamebreakers and no game savers. Gotta have one or the other or preferably both and the Flames had neither this year.
Should be a very interesting off-season....in the meantime it's ABE (anybody but Edmonton)

My apologies for pointing out the fact that I did indeed predict this outcome after that posted called me out for not actually predicting that outcome. I guess that's patting myself on the back?
Much like you don't understand the need to rehash decades of (crappy) results, I don't understand the perpetual positive posters, such as yourself. I don't understand how you guys can't look at the bigger picture as to what the problems may be with the franchise.
Don't think for a second these positive posters wouldn't have been all over the GDTs "patting themselves on the back" had we made the postseason. They're far worse than the negative posters in my opinion.

Brent also whined after every win in the 4-0 start and after that the team went off the rails.
Yeah we got outshot and won games but a win is a win and constantly complaining probably destroyed the morale in the room.
You could feel the tension with that team and you can feel it now this year.

What did you gain from it?
I had fun this season and with one game left I’m hoping to see some young guys and have one last thing to cheer for before the long wait until September begins.
You and other “negative” posters talk about how you want to win to cheer for a contender or a team that has a shot at the cup. That’s not unique, who doesn’t? But at the end of the day, I enjoyed myself, you didn’t, and we both ended up in the same spot cheering for the same team. So what did you gain?
