His moves from there on out were reactionary and he got a ton of credit for it.
I think how he handled last offseason as well as the Bill Peters situation put him in a good spot to get another job quickly. I am already speculating he will go to Pittsburgh when Burke fires Hextall at the end of the year. If Toronto loses in round 1 is there a chance he ends up there? TSN and SN were gushing over the summer of Brad last year and while the Flames fell short I think Sutter will take most of the heat in the media.
At the end of the day the team is not in a great position. They have to make some decisions on key players who have 1 year left on their deals. They have expensive older players and after next year no real sweetheart deals left except Andersson

Treliving in Pittsburgh makes all kind of sense.

Unless he chooses to sit out a year and await the very best offer. It’s not like he’s short of cash.

Or Toronto.
Seriously, what GM that will be an improvement on Tre would actually want to come to Calgary?

Yep, I don't think he would hate spending more time in Penticton

Next year is a massive change for the team.
Chicago embarked on a rebuild in Year 1 of Seth Jones' 8 year extension. Huberdeau, Weegar, and Kadri's deals should have very little to do with whether the team rebuilds or not - as they aren't good enough to carry a team.

IDK is Wolf is actually good and bring in a few more AHL guys they could easily be a 100 point team
Also, better coaching potentially...not playing Lucic as much as top guys to start

What's the ceiling of this team if they're better coached and have better goaltending? Unless Wolf is Hasek circa 1999, it's not a Championship quality team. This roster is older, and worse than the team that got absolutely !@#$ kicked by the Oilers in Round 2 - and that was their BEST season. This team doesn't have the structure of a contender.
If they run it back with a different coach (or the same coach) all they're doing is yet again banking on "just get in and anything can happen". It's a bad approach.

I realize this isn't a popular sediment in here but Treliving has been a disaster for this franchise, his FA signings, his coaching picks and his inability to lock up his best players he needs to go co-star with his dad for reality TV on Dragons Den, I hope to say I wish you the best Brad very soon.

I don't think it's unpopular at all. For most of the time he's been here he's proven he can't assemble a group of players which have cohesion or a focused identity. The team isn't overly fast, skilled, big, gritty, etc. You can bring in any coach you want and they are going to get similar results.

Disagree
This year was like the Brent Sutter years
When it works, it works, but the margins are too tight to play low skill hockey and hope your skill wins out
Once the team bought in but didn’t get results, the hill was too high
They were pros and bought in, but weren’t error free and it was frustrating
Making sacrifices that don’t pay off is gruelling

A fear I have going into next year is that those 6 UFA’s all have big years, they hold onto them past the trade deadline, get swept in the first round and they lose them all for nothing

The identity of this team is ‘be slightly above average and do whatever it takes to get playoff revenue.’
With average goaltending this is a 98-100 point team. With last year’s Markstrom this is a contender again. That’s the best you’ll get as a Flames fan in the big budget modern NHL (by this I mean a stacked team like 1989 with a bunch of HOF players on sub $1 million contracts will never happen again). Accept it or cheer for another team.

Just start rebuild and hope to draft some core players next 2-3 years and go for the cup with home growing talents in the new arena.
Your current GM is not good for rebuild and current Coach has not suitable to coach a team with young talents.

I really don’t like the “cheer for another team because you don’t like how your favorite team is being run” takes. People on here have invested their time and money into the Flames for years. They can give their honest opinions on how they feel about how the franchise is being run. They don’t have to accept the direction of the organization just because you do. They aren’t any less fans because they don’t accept the mandate that the org been following for a long time now

This team spends to the cap every year for no reason. They don’t need to spend $80M to finish 18th. They could spend $65M and be interesting with young cheap talent that people wanted to see grow and develop.
I don’t believe for a second that the attendance this season was better because they were in a playoff race up to game 81. This was a boring, unlikeable team that lost games in the first ten minutes at a rate not seen since 2001 era Mike Vernon.

I remember that Francis said on a podcast a few weeks ago that attendance at the Dome has already gone down. People are bored and frustrated with the current product on the ice, as they should be. I find it hard to believe revenue would’ve taken as baldy of a hit if they iced a rebuilding team instead of the maxed out cap team they decided to go with

May be make some smart financial decision? Save on cap hit and sell tickets cheaper to watch a younger cheaper exciting team than this old slow boring team?
If there are less attendance now, then what happens if they have a same type of boring average team while you need force to increase the ticket price when the new arena opens.

You only want to be out here in the offseason though.
It's #### out here in the winter. Just grey like the coast but with none of the amenities.

Treliving will be gone and it will probably be a mutual decision. He likely doesn't want to stay that badly, and I doubt Edwards wants him back that badly.
Treliving failed. He isn't the only one that failed, there is plenty of blame to go around. Ultimately, it comes down to him though.

I would be shocked if Tre signs on to stay here. Why would he? I think Sutter was an Edwards hire, and that same hire tries to undermine Tre at every turn by criticizing how the team is built. If I didn't know better, I would think Sutter is pointing the team's nose down on purpose, just to make Tre look bad and get his job. Tre has the added bonus of working for a small-market Canadian team, although he doesn't seem to have too much trouble getting free agents to come here. Tre will go somewhere like Toronto, or Pittsburgh, and win GM of the Year in the next 2 seasons.
Three players prevented us from being a contender this year: Huby, Marky, and Kadri.

I know this seasons failures is largely on Tre but he got dealt a #### hand last offseason. I don’t fully agree with his decisions but overall I have liked what he has done here.
Call me crazy but I would like to see Tre move into the President of Hockey Ops role and have someone else take over as GM with a new coach and a plan to fix this wreck.
It can’t be easy having an ownership group that refuses to try and build by not being very good for a few seasons - you know how every team who has won has done it (maybe aside from STL).
Tre is terrible in free agency but otherwise I’ve liked what he has done. Raymond, Brouwer, Neal, Kadri and to some extent Coleman are not signings I liked and defiantly hold against him but I feel like he generally solid at trading (Hamonic was bad) and drafting.
