I look forward to you telling us why we should be optimistic with all these large contracts heading into next season, followed by your wisdom of why things are gonna be different and we shan’t be a middling team again!

How about this:
Huberdeau looks to have found his game. Markstrom is very capable of a rebound year - he’s done it before and tonight was a fine performance overall. And Wolf is in the wings. Lucic is likely done with a replacement to come from the farm (contracts almost demand this). Mangiapane is still young and can also rebound. Kids like Duehr and Pelletier look good. The D corps is very solid.
Just average goaltending over the year would have put Calgary in the POs. Hell, two or three games with a little more luck do it. So with actual good goaltending, Huberdeau improved, Mangiapane having a better year, Calgary is where the pundits predicted this year.

Nope.
He signed at age 20. He is on the roster and his salary counts against this years cap. (That is why the TML had to wait to sign Knies, they couldn't fit him under the cap.) He doesn't HAVE to play a single game.

Well hopefully they give the young guys a game (Coronado, Pelletier, ruzicka, duehr).
Then send them down to help the wranglers if they can.

In this game, while yes the Ritchie selection over the likes of Andersson, Lindholm, Dube, Mangiapane, Weegar is dubious at best- I don't like the Kadri selection either. Dude hasn't played with confidence since November and quit on the team. Should be told after the season he's not welcome back and we'll figure out what to do with his contract and career on our time and at our decision.
There was lots of chances they just missed on, quite frustrating OT and one of those 7 or 8 chances needed to be buried.
Worst season I can remember as a fan.

Probably not that simple, but drafting NCAA studs to Calgary is like drafting Russians. Unnecessarily risky. Take the BPA from, well, pretty much any other place other than NCAA with the short circuit screwover ability or Russia and you'll be fine. But Calgary continues to divert its scouting resources to the wrong spots.
|
Fox went 66th overall.... Sure maybe every other GM knew he would only ever sign for NY, but seems likely at the time that a 3rd round pick would be a safe bet to sign for whoever drafts them.

I think it's rubbed off on the team too with their ref skate-blaming.
It's a bad look and they deserve to lose with attitudes like that.
Let's make this team likeable again, please.

We’ll, we could’ve given up a stud prospect and several more 1sts for Kadri, and then maybe he would punch a teammate during a tv timeout.
And say Mangiapane breaks his hand punching a wall for that same night.

I look forward to the scouting report on our middling pick for this middling franchise. There, that vetter? I get it, you don’t have a leg to stand on so you’ll pick apart the tiniest of details.
Having A CHANCE to win the cup would be a good standard, no? That’s where I’m at. Give me a chance to believe we can do it. When was the last time you felt that? And I hope you don’t say last season cuz if you thought JG and Chucky were getting us there, you weren’t paying attention.

Do we not have enough things to be mad about in this game that people have to drag Fox into the conversation?

It's been pointed out that Ritchie has decent SO numbers and actually scored on Saros in o e this year. Probably not my pick but also not all that off the board. Nobody but Huberdeau actually has good numbers.

Don’t forget to add the last game vs the Nucks, as it’s not like their lineup was NHL quality calibre.

And look how good those AHL guys are?
The delta between the AHL / NHL is not that big, and every single Wrangler who came up performed well. This organization needs way more fluidity between pros and minors. Way more. Drives accountability and an actual meritocracy and you'll find your next star that way.

He’s not an idiot.
But it is worth the gm, whoever it it, taking the time to figure out what Sutter thinks he’s doing. This whole season has seemed like he’s trying to dine out on last season without realizing it’s a whole new ball game.

Probably wants a team to root for who has a legitimate chance of winning a cup I’d guess. Not this team we have.
