Is there any evidence that past shootout success, especially against one particular goaltender, is predictive of future shootout success? I'm highly skeptical.

I would say yes over a large sample size, like a player against a division rival goalie. But a sample size of 1 goal? Nope, Darryl pulled that one out of his ass. Or if he actually thinks that's a valid reason then he's truly lost it.
