In case anybody's wondering, Ritchie works in the shootout 40% of the time, every time.
Recalculating...
33% of the time, every time (now 2/6 career)

When is the last time a Flames GM ended up GMing for another team?
When is the last time a Flames coach ended up as the head coach for another team?
It is pretty pathetic.

You do Vladar and Markstrom as shooters before Nick Ritchie.

Those 3 are a combined 4/18 in shootouts, with Anderson being 2/4.
Ritchie was 2/3 coming in.

You might literally be the biggest homer on this board, so it means nothing coming from you. I don’t understand the acceptance of mediocrity from so many flames fans.
And clearly you haven’t noticed my posts if you think this is the first time I’ve been pessimistic about this team.

Toffoli and Lindholm are sitting there, staring you in the face, and score all the time. Could have even thrown Zadorov out there, he's so unpredictable. Saros is a top goalie in this league.
Nick Ritchie. Let that sink in.

Misplaced anger at Ritchie IMO. The guy has hands and gave a decent attempt. Better than Kadri or Backlund. Significantly.
Lots to be mad about.
But Kadri no showing the last half+ of the season? Inexcusable.
That was Kent Nilsson, Rene Bourque, James Neal level of effort.
I actually don't think the first two ever actually quit on the team. They just weren't very focused.
But Kadri and what the team gave up in order to sign him to that anchor contract? Makes me ill.
There was some bad luck this year to be sure but this organization needs to start going about it's business differently. This feels similar to the end of the Sutter GM regime. Without the insane trades but far worse contracts on the books.

You know, if Sutter combined his motivating ways but also had the sense to use skilled, fast point producers in situations where teams traditionally use them, he might make an alright coach in this day and age.
Felt like he nuked their game with his bench management every chance he got.
Every shootout in the second half his shooter selections were godawful too.
He's a great manipulator, but he still only knows old school hockey (pre-2005).
That's where his brain is. He can't comprehend fighting skill with skill. It just doesn't compute for him.

Can't wait for game 82 when we get to see...
Corronato? Nah, can't take time away from Lucic, as GM Sutter already has him pencilled in as top 6 next year.
Pelletier? Nope, need shootout superstar Nick Ritchie to get his time so he can play #1 line next year.
Wolf? LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL Nah, I'm sure THIS TIME will be the time Markstrom figures it out...f*** you Markstrom. You blew the playoffs vs the Oilers, and you blew this entire season.

Ideally all 3 should be gone but they won’t.

I for one will actually be fine if Markstrom sticks around and the other two things happen.
I'm just as disappointed in him as anyone else and have been piling on him since last seasons end vs Oilers but the other two are bigger issues IMO and Markstrom can be a mentor and safety net for Wolf.

Nik Ritchie is a curios decision for the shootout. But shootouts are always a crap shoot and his attempt actually looked decent(looking at you Kadri). But don't lose sight of the fact that 3 of the 4 shootout attempts got past Markstrom. Almost all 4 as I think the 2nd attempt squeezed between the skate and hit the post.

LOL, Im sorry if im not putting the Season in the hands of Nick Ritchie.
Maybe its a bigger indictment on the GM for the team that was put together, i dont know. I just know you have to do better than Nick Ritchie.
