They also should've tried him up here when things were bleak in net. When its evident you have elite talent, you can deviate from stupid development plans.
Like what was the end goal here? Flames + playoffs. Wolf could've helped you there, and you could've got his Calder run in all the same at the end of the day.
We don't know that. He could have been blown out in his first game through no fault of his own based on the play in front of the goalies this year. You throw him in as the guy who can turn around your season, he has a couple lousy early games, and then his confidence is shot (and everyone on this board labels him an AHL lifer and 7th round bust).

The organization is a little too married to its stupid processes sometimes. You could argue that they need to be less afraid to cross their own lines for the sake of trying to win.
Best to stick with the plan and try to get the next Vasalevsky then to batism him in fire and get the next Ortio (or Gillies, or Parsons, or Irving, etc...)

What do they say? If you aren't cheating, you're not trying hard enough.
Oilers have demonstrated that recently with their hiring the guy accused of abuse that no other team would touch with a ten foot pole and coaxing players into early retirement.
Sadly, their foregoing of a moral compass is paying off for them.
I am sure if a poll were taken the majority would have opted for losing over signing Kane. and they haven't won anything yet.

If the processes they have lead to (gesturing broadly at everything) it's fair at this point to just question their processes outright. They've earned some healthy mistrust in their processes & plans

How so? You'd still have another full line (3rd line) available and rested at the end of a PP wouldn't you?
PP1 & PP2 are a combo of forwards from regular lines 1-3 so you wouldn't have any full line rested except the 4th.
So I assume putting 4th liners at the end of a PP is a chance to reset all 3 of those lines with a rest and then return to 5 on 5 hockey.

The Flames signed Bertuzzi, I am sure we could have survived signing Kane.
I think in the argument between “did we score enough” vs. “goaltending” something we leave out too much is realistic expectations. Too me, this team was always going to struggle scoring, we lost all of our elite talent. We all expected Huburdeau to drop off (sure not this much) but to me I think everyone was expecting us to struggle there because just look at the roster. I’m shocked we even had a 30 goal scorer this year. So to even finish middle of the pack may actually be above or at least at expectations for the flames, I’m sure a lot of us would have actually taken 18th in the league in all situations (8th 5v5) by earlier numbers .
With goaltending, the drop off has almost been apocalyptic . This tandem was basically one of the top tandems in the league this year and i would argue our defense got better on paper (we lost Kylington which hurt ). This year they are one of the worst tandems and to me hold a significant portion of blame as to the teams failures this year. Very very few teams can outscore bottom of the barrel goaltending. We have given up 40 more goals than last year already, and if you look at the stats we do pretty well defensively (5v5 CA/ FA / SA /XGA / SCA / HDCA natural statrick) are literally all top 5 in the league . Yes I know “but the quality against” , well let me tell you, the numbers say we are stingy. The issue is goaltending. If we even had a shade of last years goaltending this team is easily in the playoffs IMO

I think if the Flames win tonight they get in. I think both the Jets games against Minny and Colorado will have meanung for those teams and I can't see the Jets winning either.

Jets just need 1 point in the 2 remaining games they got left after tonight.
I have to laugh at the constant refrain that Wolf would have folded under that much pressure. The Flames were out of it by that point. If you goaltender prospect who has dominated at every level can't handle the mental stress of playing a few games for a team that isn't going anywhere anyway, then he's not going to make it.
