Nashville at Calgary

Both the Calgary Flames and Nashville Predators have been hoping for a miracle run to make the Stanley Cup playoffs.

When they meet Monday in Calgary, a loss will likely force one of the teams to give up on their postseason aspirations.

Heading into the night's action, both the Flames and Predators will be in arrears to the Winnipeg Jets in the chase for the Western Conference's final wild-card spot.

Flames just not good enough

It won’t officially be the death knell of their season, but the Calgary Flames’ 3-2 shootout loss to the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday is perfect example of why they will miss the Stanley Cup playoffs.

The Flames outshot the Canucks by a 43-33 margin. They sputtered at the start, pushed like mad to close the gap — even erasing a 2-0 deficit in the third period — but falling short in the end.

Just like their late-season push for a playoff spot, close but no cigar.

Predators take on the Flames, look to stop road skid

BOTTOM LINE: The Nashville Predators travel to the Calgary Flames looking to stop a three-game road slide.

Calgary has a 37-27-15 record overall and a 19-16-4 record in home games. The Flames have a +nine scoring differential, with 251 total goals scored and 242 given up.

Nashville has gone 19-17-4 in road games and 40-31-8 overall. The Predators have a 28-7-3 record when scoring three or more goals.

Those stats with the blue bars are kinda useless rounded off to the nearest goal.

Duchene? Gone. Forsberg? Gone. Johansen? Gone. Josi? Gone.

Gotta win. Go Flames Go.

That list of injured Predators is eye-popping, but then you realize that they're still in the same position we are without any injuries.

What's the difference you ask?

Saros.

Good goaltending can cover up a lot of shortcomings.

Heck, even their back up goalie has been decent. Lankinen has won them a few big games.

It's a do or die game because the Flames backs are against the wall.

Tonight likely goes a far way in deciding who drafts 15th or 16th.

What’s going to happen for sure ? A few 2 on 1 , useless PP, and a Zadarov goal.

Some Huberdoll turn overs for fun.

The Jets dropped one to the Sharks last week - they'll be playing their asses off tonight but I really hope that somehow the Sharks pull it off.

Obviously if the Flames don't win in regulation it's moot anyway.

The Jets game will just be wrapping up as this game starts. Curious if that outcome plays a role in their effort.

Nashville is forced to play it pretty tight with what's on the roster right now. They shouldn't be able to score more than two goals. We'll see if the Flames have anything left for this one as they should win. But Nashville and Saros have had their number for a couple years.

Quick summary of the three starters over their team's last 15 games.

Never had a chance ...
