I was in row 1 of Flames attack end tonight and man is this team boring offensively.
So predictable with the cycling, work it to the point, weak wrist shot into the goalies chest.
No attacking off the rush (unless it's a 2 on 1), no dynamic plays by anyone.
Powerplay passes are incredibly slow.
I don't know if it's Sutter, or a lack if talent, or both; but it sucks.
It's no wonder the OT and shootout results are poor too; we don't have the kind of highly skilled players to do those things.
We are a well structured team with good depth, but we need a star player badly.

I think our talent level is fine, I just think the system the coach is utilizing neuters the strengths of this forward group badly.

We thought we have a couple of star players but they are playing like 3rd liners. Now we are stuck with them long term. The only possible way to start a change is the coach.

He had a giveaway on the powerplay that led to a goal against. That was a pretty big gaffe.
To be fair, it wasn't his worst game overall. He displayed more energy than he does most of the time and as far as his season over all goes, it was probably an OK game. Still below what expectations for him should be though.

I’ll trade you a 4-3 loss to LA for a win against Chicago, Columbus, Vancouver or any other “gimmie” game.

Your prior posts suggest you're too clouded. He's been really great lately. You're looking for every little mis-step and it shows.

I was at that 4-3 loss and it wasn't a bad game at all. Sure, they could have won the "gimme" games against those teams, but clearly they aren't "gimme" games.
The first Chicago one was kind of back and forth. The second one I put on my list of no shows. Columbus, we lost the game when Sutter was complaining about people going to visit Gaudreau, and won the other one. Vancouver is always a rivalry game no matter how good or bad either roster is. I'll take 2-0-2 against them any year.
It's close. A point here or there changes the whole outlook now. I'm sure Winnipeg and Nashville are thinking the same thing.

Nice to see them come back, and yeah I guess the single point keeps them alive. But in the end that was not a desperate effort by a desperate team. Showing up for 20 minutes does not indicate that it’s a group that really cares. Another pathetic loss to a team that they should beat.

If flames can go 2-0 and jets go 1-1...the Thursday night game of jets vs Avs is going to be insane.

Being a divisional rival hopefully the Avs would love to stick it to them

The most Calgary Flames season it could have been.
We’re going to end up drafting 15th. We have an old, expensive team that is over the (rumoured) salary cap for 2023/2024, and we have a mediocre prospect pool.
This team should not under-react to the irrelevancy of their existence. Time to start planning a roster build from scratch. Hopefully get the foundation in before the new arena is built and online.

They won't give a **** unless theres's position movement on the line for them. There's no reason for a playoff bound team to care about who they're playing in the final games if it doesn't affect the playoffs.

I have been critical of Huberdeau all season, but I was as hopeful as anyone when the season began. I also give him his dues when he does have a good game, for which there have been a few. It's not like I started off disliking him and I'm not looking for every little mis-step, it's just that they are painfully obvious to see. They even talked about his giveaway during the intermission. It isn't like it was something you had to put under forensics to discover. He barely had an impact on the game tonight at all, other than the giveaway. Like holy hell, if Kadri had the same giveaway that led to a shorthanded goal against, we would never hear the end of it.

Yup I accepted a few years ago that I'm a loser for still supporting this franchise.
The script is always the same...and we have no control to make changes.

Our opportunity to start that rebuilding process sailed this summer. The signings of Huberdeau, Weegar, and Kadri have pushed back the next real opportunity to engage in a scorched-earth rebuild at least 5 seasons.
We're back where we were for most of the 2010s. Too good to be bad, but not actually good. In the next 5 years we'll probably have one overachieving season where we flirt with the top of the division, one underachieving season where we finish around 22d in the nhl, and three years either making it as a wildcard team or just missing out - like this year.
We'll probably even win a playoff round or two during those five seasons, but we definitely won't win two rounds in a single year.
The only way I see this going differently is if Wolf actually is the saviour. .925 goaltending will carry a mediocre team a long, long way.
