As long as Chapman wears a fat WS ring into free agency so be it. He is mashing.

You do your best to get him on track but at the end of the day it's a sunk cost. This game is looks alright, but you don't keep in as a SP just because you're paying him a lot of money. It's about future value. He can't be the closer so what else can he be?

They will throw him out as a SP until they release him. He will never be a long reliever

Come on Jose, just limit the damage

Maybe, maybe not. If they release him they pay him his full salary. If they have him in the bullpen and he gets his groove there, they still pay his salary but get utility from him. Or you stash him in the bullpen to let him develop a pitch. I don't think there's a guarantee you keep him as a SP or release him. There are other options available if they want.

You’re not wrong that their are options , but no 100 million pitcher in history has became a long reliever

The Jays will give him every chance to figure it out , and if he doesn’t he will be designated

The Jays don’t have to pay whatever he signs for so you give him every opportunity to turn it around and mitigate your costs hoping he figures it out somewhere else if it doesn’t work

Sorry, can you explain the bold part? I thought if they sign him for $20M for say, 3 years more, they have to pay him the full remaining salary?

They do , but any contract he signs with another team eliminates that much for the contract . That’s why guys always sign for the minimum . But in theory if he had a bounce back year and then signed a decent contract the Jays are off the hook for that amount

Effectively the player doesn’t get to double dip on salaries
