Definitely too hard on Bassitt after a start + 1 inning. I think because he has such low velocity I am sitting back and assuming he's going to get tattooed where as this was a case, as someone said earlier in the the thread after it happened, (and before I jumped the gun calling it a bad start) "It's Trout".

Turned into a good start he battled through and the offence did what it needs to do.

Definitely great to see Bassitt grind out a QS after that first inning.

Four cylinders firing is better than just three.

And if Berrios can't figure it out as the season goes on, hopefully someone can replace him from within.

Ryu, Tiedemann, Francis, Zulueta...

Berrios is such an awful pitcher. I legit don't know why you love him so much.

It’s extremely unfortunate that he’s turned into a pumpkin in his Blue Jays tenure. Would be a pretty wicked rotation if he lived up to his abilities.

Why does every post you make have to include a defense of Berrios?

He isnt "defending" him, he is merely stating fact.

Stripling not starting for Giants? Saw he came in relief today. Also Rays just mowing down teams right now.

Guys, just relax and discuss peacefully, these discussions are not really that dividing. lol

Anyway, regarding Stripling he got bounced last game with a couple long drive home runs. To give him the hook this early in the season wouldn’t make sense. They probably noticed something that needed work and decided to get him to the bullpen to work on it. Honestly I wouldn’t be opposed to the Jays doing that with Berrios and making him a long reliever.

Don't really have anyone better to replace him right now.

At least, I don't think Thompson or Hatch are better options.

Agreed. I personally don’t think it’ll be a light switch going off and it working out fine, but he’ll certainly get his next start and go from there. Even if he’s a pseudo reliever by having another reliever start three innings and he gets three innings would be an approach. It really sucks that he couldn’t have worked on this stuff in the off-season. It’s the equivalent of a player opting for surgery in March. Just not ideal.

You want the Jays to make their 100 million SP into a long reliever - the position with the least value in the league

Not happening
