By "friendly" do you mean the CP mods don't just ban people for expressing these views outright?

I am talking about the Fire On Ice board specifically.
Here's Fire On Ice in 2006 for example: https://web.archive.org/web/20060618...isplay.php?f=6
Nothing but hockey talk.

I find there's three or four posters who are overly vocal and argumentative about the moral high-ground of their political ideology and find reasons to bring them up in multiple threads.
There's always been bullies on this board, but it used to be that they would shout you down over their hockey assessments rather their political ones.

If that's all these threads were then I would agree.
But instead pejoratives like "bigot", "homophobe", "racist", "fascist", etc. get thrown around here like this is a Tourette syndrome support group meeting. I know LGBT+ is a sensitive topic for many, I just don't think the name calling is contributing to a healthy discussion.

I mean, if a gay person makes a person uncomfortable, they're being homophobic. If someone is talking concerns about 'race replacement' they're being racist.
I also think you're Tourette's joke is in bad taste. At any rate people react to what they feel is name calling. Fine. But I suspect folks would be as upset if someone more accurately named their behavior as X, instead of you are an X.
Fwiw I also think that your Tourette comment in bad taste.
And who are you referring to as a sensitive topic? Sensitive for the folks that feel Pride Night is thrown in their face and this tread shouldn't be in Fire on Ice? Or actual queer people?

I don't necessarily agree. I think for many the colloquial use of "homophobe", for example, means to hate gay people. And I think there is a large gap between "feeling uncomfortable" and "hating".

You'd probably find most of my jokes to be in bad taste then. That's OK, to each their own.

I agree, I think it would be more productive to challenge the viewpoint in this way.

By the way though there are 30 topics currently on page 1 of Calgarypuck. 29 of them are purely hockey related.

I don't even know what "purely hockey related" means. Like, there's a thread on page 1 about who makes the uniforms. That has nothing to do with the actual play going on on the ice... is that thread somehow objectionable too?

The mods don't ban people for spreading dangerous misinformation, hate and outright racism and homophobia.
And we're all better for it. The forum sure is.
But don't worry, we ban people for insulting other members and have a swear filter to protect us. That keeps everything civil.
Barely better than twitter but fall short on the moral high ground to reddit. Something we can all be proud of.

Do funny gifs and memes count as hockey related? We might need to ban those too in celebratory PGTs.

I could have taken a snapshot of 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, etc. But I thought that would be belaboring the point. There is a "Next" button on the Internet Archive though, if you'd like to try this exercise for yourself.
This may not be political for you. That's fine. LGBT+ on its own isn't that political for me, either.
But that's not what is happening in these threads. Unless you're just willfully ignoring the derisive/inflammatory posts? Then sure. If we ignore the name calling, the uncharitable takes, the drudging up and conflation of poster's previously expressed views, the calling for posters to be banned, etc. Then this is just a thread about a good cause.

If all you want is hockey talk then maybe stick to hockey talk? No one’s forcing you to continue dragging this out.

Do we even have mods anymore? Honestly Jiri was the only one I knew was a mod before he stepped down
Edit: oh and Kootenay
I'm pretty familiar with the nooks and crannies of vb3 and haven't found a list or anything like that in the faq or elsewhere. Now I'm curious, there's rules about obeying the mods but now that I think of it, i have no idea who they are

I was struggling to find what word to use. But there is a subset that seem to objecting to these topics appearing within the hockey forum.

What if I told you I quietly became a mod again?
Don't worry I didn't.
Or did I...
