I do not understand how people daily drive these things... you'd think you'd feel safer being up above everything and secure in the knowledge that in any severe accident you'd be totally fine even if everyone else involved is roadkill, but it actually makes me more nervous because I feel large and clumsy and constantly like I'm close to everything and unable to adjust. And I say this as a reasonably attentive, engaged driver because I generally enjoy the experience of driving... I cannot imagine how much worse it would be if I were distracted or just cruising along paying a moderate amount of attention like a lot of people do.
It's objectively a nice, comfortable vehicle that certainly has plenty of room for stuff and for people, but... yeah. Should there be a separate class of license you have to get to drive these things?

What did they give you?
It didn't take me very long to get used to the RRS as I've had SUVs in the past (though this was my first one since 2008), but switching between it and my car is definitely a huge shift. From "I can see damn near everything" to "welp, I can see under the bumper of that car at least".

Oooh, that was me! I got a right-hand drive Ford Mondeo manual (UK's Ford Fusion).
It was my first time:
- Driving a RHD car
- Driving on the left-hand side of the road
- Driving in Reading, UK
Trying to place the car within the lane while in roundabouts was the tricky bit. Placing the car in a straight line is easy. Shifting with my left hand I also found rather easy.
Also my phone battery being at sub-5% when I still hadn't found my hotel in Reading yet, that was just friggin' swell. So I was in a race against my phone's dismal battery life to find my hotel in an unfamiliar place in a car on the wrong side of the street.

Ya, I was surprised how naturally left handed shifting works(also had a Ford Fusion thingy). The real challenge was hours of driving in the rain on one lane roads where you came across another car every 5-10 minutes. Getting my brain to remember which ditch I was supposed to flail into before impact always took some extra effort.

I driver smaller but high off the ground vehicles (my daily driver is Kia Soul, or family vehicle right now is Mitsubishi Outlander, previous was Dodge Caravan and Journey).
When I had a rental sedan one time I hated it, it felt like I was sitting on the road.

City workers GMG, as usual.
Let’s close a whole road (1st st south). But don’t adjust the lights at all. So only a couple vehicles can turn due to pedestrians. Just total incompetence.

Would it have been that hard to write that in the first place?

I don't see that in the article. No mention of a raise in the traditional sense, but a bump in his bonus and options (which are discretionary). Total compensation increase is about 10% year over year. More than a lot of people but also less than many people I know in the energy industry received - and I'm talking employees, not executives.

I can read the Globe article too, without subscription.
Edit - weird... I read the entire article, clicked a link to Loblaw's financials and then went back to a restricted content message.
Anyways, Loblaws conducted a review, as they do every two years, of their executive compensation pack... which is pretty standard across the entire corporate world. A third-party consultant advised an adjustment to the comp package based on industry and sector equivalencies and standards. GW's total comp increased $1.2mm, or ~10%... Loblaw's stock is up ~20% in the last 12 months, because they hit a number of (relatively modest) sales and growth targets, which not coincidentally is also what the executive comp calculations are based on.
Basically, the company made more money, so GW made more money, which is pretty standard.
That said, it's pretty dense to not see how the optics would play and would have been a super easy PR win for GW to donate the bonus to a foodbank or other similar organization.
I'm not sure if we're supposed to eat the rich because, well, they're rich. Or because they're too rich. Or because you disagree with a standard and meritocratic compensation model. Or because you think they're making money due to some market collusion.
I can definitely get behind the last point and if it's ever proven true, there should be severe penalties and clawbacks of compensation. However, I'm not sure a worldwide inflationary event can fall on the shoulders of GW.
