Classic Trek in the way that it's just a fan fiction script that could have been cobbled together as a mad libs at a comicon panel? Because I agree.
And that treatment alone makes it exponentially better than Picard S1, S2, and all of Disco.

But it's not good TV or good trek. It's not in the same postal code as SNW. It's not even as good as ST:Enterprise was. It's buoyed by a ton of nostalgic references... it tries to cram in so many of these that it's almost impossible to follow the story.

I don't mind it, it's at least fun seeing the TNG crew all together again for sure. Also like seeing characters from other shows sprinkled in like Tuvok.

Crusher comes back to tell Picard that _____ is _____.
Enemies are ______, motivated because Starfleet did something evil in the past.
_______ meets up with new bit character to show them the ropes, probably leading to them being red shirted for effect in ep 9 or 10.
________ and _______ make surprise appearances after being secondary characters with unfinished story lines. Both are killed/probably killed.
______ sacrifices himself for the good of the crew. Geordie finds _________ and is able to get it working again. ________ then has a struggle of good/evil, but don't worry, good prevails in the end because of friendship.

At least they're finally able to give the core TNG cast a proper farewell here unlike the steaming pile of #### that was Nemesis
This is Star Trek Nemesis. Have you not seen the Scimitar Shrike right on the screen?

The Picard Clone Jack Crusher?

The unknown enemy?

They've taken Nemesis, made it 4 times as long, re-fed it to the fans and hoped they wouldnt notice.

It is attractive in some respects to do this- it gives long time fans a nice boon, and it creates immediate comfort and familiarity.

You know what else it does? It contracts the galaxy enormously. In this case it makes sense, they are trying to build allies so of course they go with old people they know. It didn't really make sense with Ro, but we can let that slide. Discovery and Star Wars reboots were absolutely horrible with this though- how can we have a galaxy comprising trillions or octillions of souls and yet we run into the same group of 12 people over and over again. It starts to limit the amount of creative energy within the universe, creating recursive loops. Suddenly if you want to be notable in the star trek universe you have to have some sort of arcane link to spock (be his brother, sister, close friend, holder of his father's Katra, spirtual descendent, etc.)

I'm not saying that is definitely happening with Star Trek. Discovery tried to bottle it up and I think failed, fortunately. But I am ever concerned that it will continue to trend in the closed up direction. That's why we need a new series, new ship, with no ties at all to any of these people. Keep them as historical references.

I disagree.

It's good TV. It's a good Star Trek Movie. It's bad Star Trek TV.

The Star Trek movies were mostly bad and they always had the need to ramp up the urgency, the action, the high stakes, and the villains and most of them failed to be Trek because of this need to be commercial. This is really a 10-episode Star Trek movie. The movies that were good knew that it wasn't about the villain or the hokey plot but about the characters and how they worked together and supported each other as a family in those situations. At its core, that's why Picard S3 also is trying to be although they haven't quite succeeded yet.

Think about the ending of All Good Things where they talk at the poker table about the future timeline Picard told them all about. How they all changed, how they all drifted apart. Somehow they couldn't avoid their fate but maybe they can still come back together as family. For me, this is All Good Things part II.

finally caught up. this show is dumb fun, but at least it's fun. I'll go ahead and lower my personal bar if it means that we don't have to suffer through another Disco or Picard S1/2 again.

they keep trying to explain how Altan Soong was attempting to create a true human or something with the personality mashup. "you know what would make this android so much better? let's mix in some evil incarnate, that's the missing ingredient!" I'm glad they did it though because Lore smack talking Picard's ancient face is the high point of this series.

I have no idea what moron thought the concept of Vadic as some sort of cartoon villain was a good idea.

At least his name isnt 'Jacque Picar'

I get that the actress did her best with what she was given, you cant make bricks without clay, but holy crap is that character awful. Its just ridiculous.

So you have some stupid vaudevillian villain chatting with a dumb British street urchin and its almost painful to watch.

The last 20 minutes was pretty amazing though.

Well...no. That happened in the first 5 minutes and I cant speak to him/her/It/Them doing it boldly or whether no changeling had been there before.

Only Counsellor Troi knows that.

Anyhow...these jokes just write themselves, but I think the last 20 minutes of that episode were the best of Picar so far! The first 40 or so were a bit of a slog.
