Also people can’t figure out where they should be on those pathways. You end up stuck behind people pushing double-wide strollers because “wheels”, with earbuds in and it’s just easier for cyclists to be on the road.
Looking at that road it’s pretty short, (like 1km?), so any cyclists are back on the road again anyway. In that situation, a regular bike lane on the side of the road, like almost everywhere else in Kelowna would have been more sensible. What was even the rationale for that in that neighbourhood?

There are tons of people riding year round. Our very own Bigtime drives to work about 2 days a year. Before they sent us home, I rode to work for 20 years regardless of the season. The 70% thing is hilarious, too. January was short sleeve weather for basically the entire month. We need more dedicated infrastructure, not less. That would get cyclists off the road that the vehicles seem to need to hog.

It almost feels like the whole city is grumpy after that demoralizing loss last night, I'm certainly feeling it. The morning commute seemed more ornery than usual with other drivers and an aggressive bicycler as well. The 2022-23 Flames are a disservice to the city.

I got a Yeti mug (as a gift and they're way overrated), but there is no way the lid needs to go on as tight as it does. Realistically, you can hardly twist it off, and it's completely dumb.

Contrary to popular belief, the padding in your shorts, not the padding on your saddle, is what makes the ride comfortable. A spandex bike jersey has pockets in the back for my phone, wallet, food, and tools. It has nothing to do with trying to set a land speed record. It has to do with being comfortable and wearing appropriate gear for the sport. Do you also make fun of skiers wearing a ski jacket and mitts? How about a guy wearing a suit going into an office? Should he not wear one because he's not on Wall Street?
Cyclists, should not be on sidewalks. I say this as a cyclist. Sidewalks are where people walk. It's in the name. They are not wide enough to have bikes going multiple ways on them. People walk their dogs, have small children, walk beside each other, have strollers, carry groceries, etc. A pedestrian should not have to move out of the way on a sidewalk for a bike coming up behind them. That is why cyclists go on roads. Whether they are going 17 km/hr or 40 km/hr.
For the argument coming up that drivers are going too fast and don't want to be inconvenienced by cyclists going to slow, it's rich to suggest in a condescending way that cyclists don't want to be inconvenienced by a pedestrian. This is why separated infrastructure aids drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians.
As for sliver, he's doing his usual shtick. He will come back saying it's not a shtick, but he's been around long enough we all know it. If that helps him get a little excited when he rides his rascal, then good for him.

Gets old hearing, "you training for the Tour de France?". It seems beyond the comprehension of people that there maybe something between riding on the side walk and competing in the Tour de France.
I wonder if it's like other sports where there are recreational and competitive local, provincial, and national events?
As for Sliver, 99.9% of Calgary doesn't use the street he lives on, it's like 11 people total, waste of money providing upkeep

The Yeti is just plain overrated though. No reason that there should be any pompousness associated because it's just an overpriced mug. I wouldn't have bought one for myself, and the fact that the lid is ridiculously tight makes it poorly functioning. I could accept that if it was liquid tight, but of course while it seals there super-tight, the actually drinking part is not water-tight. Super annoying.
I recycled my old mug, thinking that I wouldn't need it anymore, so I'm stuck with this one now...hence the post in this thread!

It's also possible that my lack of a sense of humour is why people think I'm old.

It Grinds my Gears that people walk around busy places like airports having conversations with some on on facetime on their phone while the phone is on speaker.

My new company has me working and travelling in the states.
I’ll never get over people using “Mr Adam” in a high level executive meeting

On the subject of the whole "people in large vehicles are menaces" thing, I had a weird perspective shift today - I brought my car into the shop for some bodywork (bumper needs replacing among other things) and got a rental. The rental they gave me is an absolutely gigantic SUV. It's a tank. It might fit in my garage but there'd be no room around it. I do not understand how people daily drive these things... you'd think you'd feel safer being up above everything and secure in the knowledge that in any severe accident you'd be totally fine even if everyone else involved is roadkill, but it actually makes me more nervous because I feel large and clumsy and constantly like I'm close to everything and unable to adjust. And I say this as a reasonably attentive, engaged driver because I generally enjoy the experience of driving... I cannot imagine how much worse it would be if I were distracted or just cruising along paying a moderate amount of attention like a lot of people do.
It's objectively a nice, comfortable vehicle that certainly has plenty of room for stuff and for people, but... yeah. Should there be a separate class of license you have to get to drive these things?

You get used to it pretty quick and then it’s just a matter knowing the sizing and angles when you’re parking.
But going into a much bigger vehicle always feels sluggish and tankish at first when you’re not used to it, just like moving to a smaller vehicle feels like you’re in a dinky little clown car.
The worst is airport rental car terminals where you’re suddenly in a vehicle completely mismatched to what you’re used to driving and you have to totally shift your driving habits to account for a different vehicle size in a place you are already (usually) unfamiliar with.

Even more fun if you show up jet lagged in the UK, and they all drive on the wrong side of the road.
