So frustrating.

Calgary couldnt put him on IR though, he wasnt injured to begin the season.
Which means no Kadri signing etc.

He wasn't injured to start the season? Guys seem to go on LTIR for less than what Monahan had already been through.
I can only speculate but sure seems to me that there was ample indication that an extended break and healing time would have served Monahan well.

Smith (and the Oilers) declared his missing the entire season, the moment the prior playoffs ended.

Chucky with the game winner tonight, putting them back into the top wildcard spot.
Sitting at 39 goals on the season, 103 points with 4 games left. Will he hit back to back 40g to go with his back to back 100pts?

Monahan said he was healthier than he had been in years at the start of the season...he was hoping to earn another contract.
Little different than guys like Smith who were happy to collect money and not work out all summer

Holy crap, Tkachuck is going to drag that team right into the playoffs. I figured we'd see some kind of dip in production, but he's on pace for the same as last year AND he's doing so as the clear leader.

He scored a goal in Montreals 1st game of the season iirc.

That's a good race to watch. No head-to-head games left between the teams fighting for those wildcard spots, and each has a mix of easier and tougher games ahead to finish up. Could be close right down to the wire.

The difference was that Monahan didn't claim to be injured.
It's not like the player doesn't have any say in the matter.

I thought Tkachuck would start off strong and fade, man was I wrong. He’s been amazing. So hard to watch, but I’m pulling for them to make the playoffs.

Yeah, I definitely thought Tkachuk would be a 80 point player. Sure sucks he wouldn't re-sign here

Couple of weeks to go until the meaningful games start. Presidents Trophy to sneaking into a wildcard is a fairly large regression.
That said, I didn't think he'd get to 100 this year. And he could still make it a career year.

Well like I said, I don't claim to know all the facts or what conversations were had. I have no idea what Monahan thought would have been best or what discussions were had with him.

Monahan said he felt better than he had in years before the season

Considering many people thought the Panthers were done, and that they're currently in a wildcard spot, I would argue that the meaningful games for them already started.

exact same points as the "loser" Flames currently
whoever gets in is going to have very low point totals for a playoff team based on recent years

He probably did until he didn’t. Once he hit the ice and the physical contact increased he likely started facing those same injury issues as before. It’s truly unfortunate
