All motorists need to do is leave 5 minutes earlier and chill.

Pedestrians on the sidewalk? Cyclist can go slow. Or take their chances on the street. But inconveniencing cars is off the table. On a 50km/h road the last thing we need is some tit in spandex going 17km/h.

The safest solution that solves this conflict is to just reduce the road speed down to 17km/h.

Problem solved.

And this is why this isn't a solution. A bunch of these people are training for the Tour de France (I assume). They're decked out in their spandex and trying to set land speed records, they're going way too fast to be inconvenienced by warning a pedestrian.

I forgot to put my other idea. If you see a guy in spandex the game is you get to try to throw a stick in his spokes. It'll keep him hustling, which is what he wants, and the rest of us get a little something out of it, too.

But yeah, IDGAF about the 14 guys who want to ride around Calgary blocking roads so they can get fit. Hop on an exercise bike and watch TV like a normal person, or work around traffic when you're on your bike like I do. I'm flying all over sidewalks, boulevards, bike paths, parks, roads, whatever...my only thing is I just stay out of everyone else's way.

When people don't open the car wash door to signal that they are done.

Sometimes the doors are all dirty, fogged up, or even made of solid materials, so it can be challenging to see inside.

So, you basically have to open the door every few minutes to check and inevitably get a dirty look if the person is still washing.

There's really no other way though. Otherwise you run the risk of just sitting there and the guy has already left out the other side.

You get run over by cars backing out of drive ways or making right turns.

The better answer is at least painted bike lanes and no parking on any commuting style road. Quit allowing the storage of vehicles on our transportation corridors.

What old car wash do you go to that doesn't automatically open the entry door when the exit door is opened? Sounds broken, I wouldn't blame the person washing their car.

Well, they'd get hit by cars if they didn't look both ways when crossing streets and driveways. I can live with that. We let pedestrians take the same risk.

I don't think I've ever used a car wash where the button at the exit door didn't also open the entrance.

Nah, it's nothing to pop it open. I think you should.

No we have site lines on sidewalks designed for pedestrian based speeds and a populace trained on looking for pedestrian speed type hazards.

Unless you are advocating for bikes to travel 3-5km/hr as they go along these sidewalks you are increasing Hazards to them.

Agree with Sliver on the bike thing and have always thought it’s insanely stupid of society to herd bikers onto roads where cars drive. This is from the simple logic of damage done in an incident.

People getting hit by bikes (injured) is not like bikers getting hit by cars (killed). Not everything we do as a society needs to make driving slower, ####tier, and generally insufferable.

The one I go to doesn't, but it has an occupancy light, and will auto open as you drive up(if it is empty and the light green). Works really well, and keeps the heat in in the winter. I won't say where it is though, because it already gets too busy, and you people are vultures with poor manners.

People getting hit by bikes kill them.

I don’t know of the proportion of damage or incidents per km and how they compare but

https://globalnews.ca/news/6622149/c...-sentence/amp/

Given the few opportunities for this to occur relative to the cars and bike interactions it may be similar risk.

Ah, true, I've seen those. I tend to barely ever wash my car in the winter, so I tend not to come across it very often.

Not like cars, come on now, this is pretty straightforward…

Cyclists inconveniencing cars is a minor issue compared to cars inconveniencing other cars, cars inconveniencing pedestrians, or the consequences of so many people driving ginormous SUVs and trucks. The entitlement of so many drivers is laughable, it doesn't matter how much is spent on road infrastructure and how urban transportation is almost always designed with automobiles first in mind, its never enough.

So why shouldn't we be making driving slower, then?
