Nashville trades a good and productive player to the team they're chasing, and still has a chance to make it in the dance. Winnipeg goes out and spends very limited resources on a youngish asset and he starts producing.
Both were better moves than what we did.

97 points each but Flames with 1 more RW (34 to 33)
In this scenario, Jets bring their magic number to 0 and do not make it in.
Calgary brings theirs to 1 and make it!

I think this is what will happen.

I think Stecher was a big upgrade over Mackey. The Ritchies are probably a draw. So it made the team better in my mind. Don’t see anything wrong with that.

Yes, because I have given the tiebreaker to the Jets with these numbers, even though there is a small possibility (microscopic!) that the Flames still get it. If the situation warrants it, I'll update the numbers to reflect

It is a race to zero, and every point that you get, plus every point that your opponent doesn't get, reduces your number.
So for instance, the Flames are at 13 against the Jets, but if they beat the Jets in regulation on Wednesday, it would drop the Flames' number by 4 (2 points earned by the Flames plus 2 points squandered by the Jets)

In the interest of evaluating who to cheer for down the stretch to keep Winnipeg and Nashville's final games, both against Minnesota and Colorado important for their opposition here's the remaining schedules.
Best case is Minnesota, Dallas and Colorado are fighting it out for playoff positioning till the end and not resting.
Should one of them lock down first in the division or 2nd and 3rd become set we might need the fight for 1st in the conference with a Pacific division team to be in play.

After much computing I feel like we want Minnesota to win tonight in OT. Colorado has the easiest schedule of the three and 7 games left so they have a good chance at first and the conference but hopefully not so fast.
We obviously want the Stars to beat Nashville as well, which helps us both ways.

A dumb question, when we beat the Hawks tomorrow, will the numbers changes to:
NSH: 14
CGY: 8
WPG: 8
CGY: 11
And when we beat Jet on Wed, our number change to 9?

I Still find games above .500 to be the most clarifying. It becomes really apparent when you look at Seattle as there was never really a chance of catching them.
Currently:
Seattle 15 (Before tonight's likely win)
Winnipeg 12
---------------------
Calgary 10
Nashville 8
Calgary just ain't catching 5 games on Seattle, the games in hand made it into a mirage

As for tomorrow, yes you are correct.
As for the Jet game, if the Flames won in regulation, our number would drop to 7 (2 pts for winning and 2 points for the Jets getting nada)
So if we win both games (Jets in reg), it would be 14-6 vs NSH (ignoring any games they have) and 8-7 vs WPG

Nashville is on the verge of being done with that loss. A loss to the Golden knights could be the nail in the coffin.

I really don't see Seattle falling off the map like I was hoping. I think it's down to the flames and jets. I think the preds are done

Five games left. We are two points back of the Jets and since they have the tiebreaker we need to finish ahead of them.
Don't really need any other way of tracking at this point. It's pretty simple.

The central is going to be a fight till the end knowing that if they win it they start at home against Seattle. Hopefully (and I expect) both those MIN and COL games against WPG will have serious meaning for the Wild and Avs which would be a positive for the Flames.
Beat Chicago and get at least a point against Winnipeg and I think Calgary should be at least 50% to make the dance.

The flames can’t overlook any teams right now. Absolutely have to beat Chicago tomorrow. The games against Winnipeg and Vancouver will both be a battle I think. Both are tough teams that are playing better. The Jets will be rested, desperate and confident. The Canucks will be hungry to deny the flames a playoff spot and also want revenge for what the flames did to them on Friday.
If the flames turn this 4 game win-steak into a 7 game win-streak, they will be tasting that playoff spot. I think Nashville and San Jose will be easy pickings if the flames can be on that kind of roll.
The Winnipeg game is as high stakes as it gets for a regular season game. I think the losing team will be so devastated that it will be tough for them to bounce back to complete a good run finish the season.

With that Seattle win, I think this has become 3 horse race for one spot. They would have to go 1-5 to part of the conversation again, which I don't think will happen.
Flames need to take it one game at a time. If they get caught looking towards tomorrow they will be in trouble.
