A Maurice-coached team is already easy to hate. Their star player being one that we drafted and developed and were subsequently ditched by makes it even easier.

I doubt I will ever actively cheer for the Leafs. But I was a bit disappointed to see them blow that lead and let Florida get two points. Eff the Panthers...they can be outside the playoffs for the next 8 years.

Yeah, I won't say I hate them but Maurice makes it easy to not cheer for them. And then even though he didn't pull a Gaudreau, Tkachuk can get bent.

I still honestly don't get why Gaudreau is seen as worse than Tkachuk.
Gaudreau was a UFA. That was his right. He didn't demand a trade. He didn't pout. He just walked when he had the chance.
He didn't hold anyone hostage - the Flames made the choice to not trade him the prior offseason, they held on to him for the season, and they didn't give him a deadline either. They waited to the last minute with their best offer just as much as he did.
Tkachuk asked for a trade. Gave the team 3 teams he was willing to re-sign with, and forced his way out of Calgary.
To me that is way worse. Just because the trade return was good (or at least looked amazing at the time) doesn't mean he did them some favour. He was only doing what was in his best interest.

Maybe you missed the dozens news stories, multiple threads and hundreds of posts that discussed Johnny telling the flames it was a done deal and then reneging on his word at the 11th hour. Might have something to do with it.

I do, why wish Tkachuk success after he bailed on us 6 weeks after saying he wanted to re-sign. So nice of him to chose 3 teams we had the privilege of trading him to.
Its also pretty funny how much tire pumping they get on CP considering they have LESS points than the lowly Flames and no 1sts for what 3 seasons...imagine the Flames were in this spot and had traded 3 firsts including 2023 unprotected. Yeah Tkachuk is young...he will be almost 30 by the time they their own first rounder playing for them lol.
It's not Oiler hate but its more fun to hope they lose...either way they went from a presidents trophy to either missing the playoffs or getting pounded by Boston in round one after moves they CHOSE to make. This is all with Tkachuk playing as good as could possibly have been imagined.
They should be dead and buried but the stupid Pens keep losing easy games.

He had the right to leave but he handled it wrong. There's the reports he backed out at the last minute but then I remember him saying that early on after the season ended he knew he was leaving. I don't think it was intentional but he dicked them around.
I don't really like how Tkachuk handled it either which is why I said he can get bent but he atleast told them he wouldn't sign for more than one year and they got something for him.

So for about 30 minutes the Flames thought they had him signed and then turns out they didn't.
Hard to stay mad about that for very long IMO.

He told them to help himself though...it just happened to be better for the Flames. He wouldn't have had another 104 point season here the way the roster was looking after Gaudreau bailed....he cashed in like he was UFA a year earlier.

The Panthers used a few of their 9 lives, but, that was a thrilling victory for them. Lyon, the backup goalie, in net for this game was at his best. The Panthers PK was perfect at 4/4.
The Islanders haven't had problems with Barzal being injured. The Isles are now 11-4-2 without Barzal playing. Sororkin is 8-1-1 in the past 10 games. It was a tame game with only coincidental minors in reg time and then a minor penalty late in OT. The SO win keeps the Isles 4 points on the Panthers.
The Wild continue to cruise without Kaprizov as they just keep winning. The Wild and Avs were fairly even heading into the 3rd period. Both teams had the same amount of shots after each period and were both 0/3 on the PP. The 3rd period was different, the Avs out shot the Wild 19-4 and were 0/2 on the PP. Gaudreau scored 2 SHGs, one was an empty net goal. Gustavsson was excellent in net for the Wild.
