This is a rule loop hole that needs to get some consideration. Teams buying out players have the cap space to sign the same player for cheaper. Something to consider in the future

I agree, maybe there should be a rule where you can’t sign someone you have bought out the same season that you bought them out

Is it necessary? When players are released they are posted and any team can bid for that player.

Pending UFA and why would anyone want to pay a goalie 10Mill this day and age? I wouldn’t with so many good goalie options available.

I will say that if teams are making claims you better be sure you have the cap space! Because the player will be awarded AFTER the deadline has passed.

I'm waiving Ullmark so I have the space to buyout Atkinson. I signed Atkinson as a FA and he ended up being day-to-day to out for the season. He never suited up one game in the NHL which means he would have a zero next year.

Atkinson is a third liner on my team now and going into the playoffs I didn't see the point of having 2 goalies who are paid so much. Gru has better numbers at a cheaper hit. I also had both Gru and Ullmark on the trade block for so long and no teams were interested at all. I would not be resigning Ullmark to the grid after this season. Way to much money likely. So that's the reasoning. This is all so I can buyout Atkinson.

I wasn't planning on resigning Atkinson. Actually I'm pretty sure theres a rule that said something like afterDay 180 or something a bought out player can't be signed.
