Haha, I’m not as adamant that Sutter refuses the play young players as most, but he certainly need players to earn his trust. No way does Coronato see a game unless they are out of the playoffs

Just like the night before, I could tell this one was over as soon as Rasmus scored the 3rd goal. Glad to see them win, but man, I could do with less whiplash to my expectations as a fan.

The Flames really are like a box of choc-o-lates. You never know what you're gonna get.

Mikael Backlund, at age 34, is having a career year.

He's had a very Giordano-esque trajectory, and yet still can't get the captainship. I know others say it doesn't matter, but I still find it absolutely ridiculous that we haven't had a captain for the last two years.

In the midst of all the alleged dysfunction, this player is having a peak performance straight up against the top players of every other team, and winning. It's unreal.

There is no reason to cheer for losses in my opinion.
Only because the Flames created hopeless feelings like the LA game

A nice and clean win on a Tuesday night. Some of the Swedes (Backlund and Andersson) stepped up. Toffoli seems to be heating up as well.

This is one thing that has bothered me. We need someone steering the ship, some accountability. A captain would do wonders for this team.

I had a feeling that they would bounce back and win that one as this team seems to win when things look dark and lose when there's optimism. That said they need to string together a bunch of wins as the season is running out.

I missed this one since I had a freakishly early start to work today, but:

I like it when this team wins. Screw tanking. WIN WIN WIN!!!!!

Really it is just bad coaching that has led to the consistent message that nobody is enough of a leader for the C. Too bad, it is clearly Backlund.

It’s over, they’re too far back. Nashville has 3 games in hand, Seattle ain’t falling out and even though Winnipeg might they aren’t catching the Predators.

Too many poor efforts in key games down the stretch. You can’t come out at home against Anaheim the way they did, or the 15 other examples. You can’t play Lucic all year instead of key lineup changes you should have made at the time and expect to make playoffs. Too many #### ups.

They’re like under .500 for the month of March… this was a giant month they needed to start winning at a high pace. Few of those losses are Ot, sure, but go look at their results for the month of March and tell me with a straight face they’ll run the table from here on out? It’s not happening.

Really?

With what 41 one goal games, and 3rd overall xGF% they're very predictable.

Show up for lion's share of games, play decently well and often outplay the opposition, but often fall short by one save or offensive finish.

It's been the story all season.

The game in LA was the aberration.

Right, sometimes they have that ability to finish or make a big save/defensive play, other nights they are listless. The system still produces shot volume/suppression, but the ability to actually win a game using that system looks wildly different from night to night. Take this game against the Ducks vs. the one they played at home a few games ago where they looked languid...at home no less with serious playoff implications on the line.

You can see it in the play of some players. They are great some nights and awful others, and it usually is a really stark difference. Just a terrible lack of consistency all season, but it's masked by a system that indicates they should be much better.

Sutter is the team's captain which is why the team needs new leadership.

I had a feeling they would win this one. After getting blown out in a must win game that all but ended their playoff aspirations, the team comes out and plays loose and ends up with a convincing win. Wonderful. Giving us more false hope and putting us on pins and needles for another couple of games. The ups and downs of this team is just insane. Definitely the most painful season to watch in 40+ years of Flames hockey.

I agree to a degree ... I think we've seen some inconsistency in Kadri, Huberdeau, Lindholm, the goalies.

I think the likes of Backlund, Coleman, Andersson, Tanev, Weegar, Dube (and others) have been very consistent every night grinding away.

Has to be tough to play that system as well.

You have to grind every shift of your season for that extra 20% of shot volume hoping for a bounce/rebound.

Fans have clamored for different players as captain over the years. Tkachuk was a super trendy choice for a while.

Backlund playing great, no doubt. Is he a leader or a follower? Kind of hard to tell from the outside IMO.

I agree this inconsistency theme is being overused at times.. Not many blowouts this season and a good number of players have been solid all season.

It’s the goalies and the two big ticket guys who signed massive contracts before playing a game for the team that have lacked in that department.
