I get that it's very unlikely and no, I'm not thinking it's gonna happen, but how do they not have a shot? They literally could be 2 points out in about 8 hours, even on games and still a head to head with the team they're chasing. If that's not a legit shot, I don't know what is.
If they lose tonight and WPG wins, then the math is really hard to defend.
But if they get to within 1-2 points before April 5th date with WPG, then it's still do-able.
Hoping for losses makes zero sense.

I've held off saying it so far this year but if they lose tonight and the Jets win, I'm out.
Jets are a miserable 5-10-2 in their last 17. Trying their best to give it away but no one is taking it.

Again, they'd be three points out tonight, as we lose the tiebreaker vs them. Needing to likely go somewhere around 9-2, which would mean multiple 3 game winning streaks. Team doesn't like the coach. Coach doesn't like the team. Team is in disarray. Doesn't sound like it can get much more impossible than that with this group.

Again....I know it's unlikely given all the things you have laid out. None of that is lost on me.
But until it's so far out of reach, which it's clearly not right now and where it could be as early as tonight, hoping for losses will never make sense to me.
If it makes sense for you to hope for losses, fill your boots.

They will probably do it because it is unlikely and verging on impossible.
That’s the Calgary Flames way.

It was a good summary of the season. Close. But no cigar.
Thanks for coming out Flames and best of luck in your future endeavours.

I hope the game ends up being like Ward’s last game. A win, but Sutter gets the axe at the end of it.

Playoffs are always better than no playoffs even if you think your team has no shot.
Especially when it's clear the Flames won't drop enough spots to get into the Bedard stakes. They're not gonna drop every game to end the season and that's what it would likely take to get leap frogged by the 4 teams necessary to get that miniscule chance at Bedard.
Playoffs and the 15th or 16th pick will always be better than no playoffs and the 12th-14th pick.
Add in the fact the West doesn't have a Boston-like juggernaut, it makes the hope for just getting in even bigger in my eyes.
Yes, the Flames are unlikely to get in now, and they wouldn't be a favorite or anything close to even money in any series, but to actively hope for losses to squash any hope of making the dance is beyond me.
They're four points out. Could be 2 points out, even on games if WPG loses tonight. Still have a game versus WPG. That's not homer glasses, that's just facts.
As much as last night was embarrassing, they didn't lose points because of it. They didn't drop any spots. They're still in the fight. If they can get to within 1-2 points of WPG before that head to head in early April, game on. They were 7 points back a couple weeks ago, they're 4 now. This isn't impossible. Hard and unlikely, yes.
But it's not a facade as you put it.

If this team could just figure it's #### out for a couple weeks I could see them taking Dallas to 7 games and upsetting them, and LA taking out Edmonton in round 1.
Honestly feels not unrealistic if they can just get their poop in a group for more than 1-2 games.
Would be so cathartic after the bull#### of this season
If guys like Kadri are gonna throw the rest of the season just because of Darryl they should be benched the rest of the year.
The fans deserve better. No #### passengers between now and May!

Zero reason to fire Sutter now.
Just wait until the season is over and see how the Wranglers do we might have a good one in Mitch Love and some of the players he has.
I am just wondering how Coronato fits in and if Sutter uses him to show up the GM if and when he is signed.

And of course Coronato.

Nice sentiment but talk is cheap. Hopefully the stars play like they actually want to do what it takes to win.

I wish the guys in the dressing room will wake the eff up and stop whining about their coach is an idiotic meanie and decide they will suck the season away to get him fired. What they should do is take a look at their Assistant GM Mr. Chris Snow, who is fighting a horrible disease, who was given a year to live after the diagnoses and now 4 years later still fighting strong! If they have half of Chris's determination, half of his effort, they would be able to get in. If they don't want to play for the coach, don't want to play for themselves, at least look at Chris, play for him. Try to win the Cup for him!

You know what kind of talk is not cheap?
Self talk, as a big component of complete mental preparation, prior to the game.
“Whatever you’re telling yourself…you’re probably right!”
