Tkachuk hosed the Flames

So, a player has to stay with the team that drafted him now?
Tkachuk exercised his right the change teams, and he did the Flames a huge favour of advising them of his intention to do so.
The Flames often sign players who have hosed their original team.

Six weeks after publicly stating he wanted to stay...at the very least he put them in a tough situation.

After tonight they will be 13-5-1 in the last 19 games and they win the tiebreaker against Pittsburgh.

His last two seasons. His 24th and 25th year of age.
This last offseason it was "he'll never hit 100 again." This upcoming offseason it's gonna be "but he's only done it twice." I wonder what'll be the next excuse?

Okay, doesn't mean he will get 100 every year...a lot has to go right to just make it
He might do it again next season but I would take the under

Hopefully the Flames are better in the playoffs this year than Tkachuk is, that would be a nice way to finish the year.

Well yeah they will run and gun with Boston or Carolina and it probably won't go well should they make it

You will eventually be correct on the under, could be next year.

That's the point...he said perennial 100 point scorer, might be a little premature

Well I guess if the criteria of being a perennial 100 point player is that they have to get 100 points every single season, then nobody in NHL history has been a perennial 100 point player.
I'm pretty sure the label is used to describe a player who is a threat to hit 100 every year.
Incidentally, he just got another 3 points tonight to move to 4th place with 95pts in 67 games

Well not sure I would say perennial but Tkachuk is appearing to be getting better. If he had played all 82 games this year (which he can’t) he would be on pace for 116 points. As is he is on pace for 112 points in 79 games. Impressive no matter how you slice it. Just another proof point of the value of signing guys for as long as you can coming out of ELC. Way more likely to get value on an overpayment on a young guy than paying a UFA what is perceived to be market value at the time of the UFA signing (not trying to start a debate about whether Tkachuk would have signed longterm, just observing that in my opinion that should be the goal of most teams, overpay for term on young players and use UFA as a secondary source for players once young guys are locked up longterm).

14 points in his last 5 games, and unlike when I embarrassingly got it wrong on the weekend, Florida is actually now in a playoff spot.

Again, he has every right to choose where he wants to play.
He hosed no one.
It’s time that Flame’s fans get over a player choosing to leave.
Every point he gets seems to drive another knife into your heart.

He had 104 points with us last year. Still didn't stop him from effing off in the playoffs where he did jack squat for 10 of 12 games.

Problem with LTIR is that you can't accrue any cap space. It's not this magical get out of jail free card that so many people seem to think it is.

I admit to 100% thinking we pulled off the steal of the century when it happened (and I was one of the few who said Tkachuk was going to be good)... but I'm firmly in the camp of thinking we got hosed big time now.
Edit: I guess the trade itself was still pretty good. It was really us that hosed ourselves by signing both of them to max term before seeing them in action under Sutter.
|
LOL. You have an inaccuracy for each and every component of the trade - except maybe Schwindt, where 'AHL player' isn't technically inaccurate, but a premature label for a 21yo who did play 3 NHL games for the President's Trophy winning team
