Everybody involved in the Valimaki decision should be fired from this organization.

Pittsburgh choking away their lead in the playoff race and Tkachuk getting into the playoffs will just be more salt in the wound lol

Valimaki’s play seemed to pick up after he signed a contract for next season. Now I assume he is going to be looking for more than near league minimum on his next deal, so a bit of pressure might creep into his game. Let’s see how he handles that.

I don't want to see Pittsburgh slip out of the playoffs, but the Panthers are looking like they'll make it happen. Tkachuk's game-winner was another beautiful display of skill at the front of the net again. If not for McDavid's monster season, I would think Tkachuk could be a favorite for the Hart if the Panthers make the playoffs. He has really stepped up for his new team after getting the big contract.

Lmao you guys are so funny regarding Valimaki, it’s a perfect example of you trying to rewrite history. Facts are Valimaki was really bad in North America since he came back from his injury, his skating was atrocious. He looked terrible even in the AHL the season before he got waived.
The only way for him to improve his skating was to play a ton and gain confidence. There was no way he would get a spot in the top 6 on this team, he was terrible in camp and season prior, gifting him a spot would make no sense. It was always obvious that if Valimaki would fix his skating again he would be a good player, from what I have seen when we played the yotes, his skating looks way better than it has been in 3 years. He was never going to get to this level on this team, you think he would have suddenly figured it out getting an odd game and getting benched any time he made a mistake, no. Yotes were one of the only teams who could just give him ice time, and it worked out for them. Waiving Valimaki was the right choice at the time and nothing will change that, Valimaki was done here

Valimaki was bad but waiving him instead of Mackey was not the right choice.
Something went wrong with him and the Flames was partly responsible.
There is no way around that

If the Flames had kept Valimaki, he would have sat anyway, because he needed the playing time to develop. Just like Mackey, he would have been on a short leash.
He'd likely be sitting in the press box and fans would be complaining that he was a wasted draft pick because he's not showing any signs of development.

Yeah that contract looks to be amongst the best value contracts in the league with another two years left on the deal.

Sorry but this doesn’t make sense to me and (sorry) seems to lack critical thinking.
Why was he bad here?
Shouldn’t we figure that out, so that we foster possible all-star high potential players and leverage and use them rather than trade them away and have them emerge elsewhere?
Nobody has clearly articulated why he was bad here. Like he just decided to be bad here. No, obviously it’s something about the Flames. I have theories.
Considering just about every kid coming up from the Wranglers has outperformed vets, it’s pretty clear there’s a culture issue on the Flames. Which is strange because Sutter is at the helm and I didn’t think meritocracy or lack thereof would be an issue but here we are. Maybe when you disrespect rookies and youngsters they may not perform. Sutters methodology for emerging players and rookies is to be harder on them than vets and senior counterparts. He has a weird way or looking the other direction for the same mistakes young players make as older players and I have a sneaking suspicion all this does is, for some, massively erode trust in him by rookies and younger players. Sutter says the fans in Calgary love honesty but he’s been the least honest person in the organization this year, for reasons already thoroughly detailed on this site over the last few months. Maybe if a method works to develop some players it doesn’t work for everyone? Maybe it’s the coaches job to figure that out? Maybe being a dick to Valimaki was not the recipe to success like it was with Kylington?

Looked like a confidence thing to me. He was given opportunities and didn’t take advantage. Then his ice time slid and his play deteriorated further. Then demoted to the AHL where it sounds like he got worse.
He needed a change of scenery and the team didn’t want him. He wouldn’t have gotten better in this organization. So it’s a good move for him. Hopefully he makes the best of it.

Was shut down repeatedly for suggesting Chucky was going to lead FLA to the playoffs.
This trade will go down as the biggest fleecing in Flames franchise history - worse than Gilmour for Leeman.

I really disagree, so you'll have to explain how this can be the worst trade in Flames history.
Tkachuk is having a season worthy of some Hart consideration.
But the Flames got a really good haul, and you can't judge the trade on the back of a bad year for a player.
Weegar has had a solid year, you haven't really seen Schwindt, and there is still the draft pick. I don't understand how you can call it a fleecing.
