Like, I'm imagining a trade scenario for Kadri where he would end up in Nashville for RyJo or Duchesne. Shave a couple years off the books.

Just saw somewhere that Carolina has like 30 million in cap space next year and no one big to sign. They don't have any goalies under contract, and Staal is UFA too.

But the season after next, Necas is RFA and Aho, Teravainen, and Pesce are all UFA.

It's going to be tough to move guys.

Not optimistic that the flames will do much.

See them selling one of kylington, zadorov or vladar for like a 3rd because they're relatively smaller cap hits and still on the younger side.

Or maybe a hockey trade to get a cheaper but slight downgrade. Mangiapane for iofolli

Just make a space for Wolf by the back half of next season

Wolf is where our only hope for the next few years resides

He's the only potential franchise altering player in the team's system, and we need to build around him.

Did we already have an NCAA target thread? thought I remembered seeing one but I can't find it. Anyways, I hope the flames are eyeing Jake Livingstone. 6'3 210lbs RHS D from Creston BC. 34 points in 37 games. Parayko 2.0

We had a discussion about NCAA free agents in the Prospects/Wranglers Forum, and I think we mentioned Livingstone. Looks like a good one.

Flames nation just did a story and with a 20 man roster (1 league min player to sign as the 12th forward) we would have ~500k in cap space next year. That is with the following 7 D who are currently signed

Tanev, Weegar, Hanifin, Andersson, Zadorov, Kylington, Gilbert ($762k is below league min for a newly signed player of $775k).

Unless you trade someone or Kylington calls it a career - neither of which are going to happen before NCAA FA period this year, the only guy who you would likely be able to compete with a spot as a high profile D is Gilbert for the 7th D man.

I'm also not sure Calgary wants to pay more then league min for the 7th d given their cap constraints, whereas top FA are probably going to be signed around the rookie max.

I think there is next to no chance a top NCAA D prospect chooses Calgary this year. More possibility for a F, but still unlikely.

Disagree. I think we have a visibly open bottom pair RD spot, and this is a hometown kid, flames fan.

Weegar plays more left than right on our squad. That leaves only Ras and Tanev next season. I'd take a crack at Livingstone over Gilbert, easy.

And I am not convinced we ever see Kylly again.

They seem to have very smart management and ownership in Carolina.
I think they'll continue to be smart and not waste that space before they sign the players they want to keep. The way they manage assets, it wouldn't be a shock to think some of them may be traded instead.

I'm pretty sure we're only keeping one of the Swedish centres on an expiring contract next season.

Not surprising. If Lindholm wants to walk then I hope they commit to selling all the UFAs

Being a pretty weak UFA class this July, I wonder if the market value for trades favours sellers more than usual.

Again Seravalli says kind of nothing new, just a bunch of "there are HUGE problems that I wont tell you about".

Just a question, where does the Lindholm wanting to walk come from?

The big tickets that I can see moving out of Calgary would all be based on returning or promoted players.

If Kylington comes back, I think that the team will run with Weegar/Andersson as the top pairing and sell high on Hanafin.

If Pelletier has won the hearts of the staff, or they want Zary to have a learning year on Backlund's wing, then I could see Mangiapane traded to make room.

The one thing that I'm not going to miss about Tre's GMing is the constant flow of old dudes for the bottom six. Hoping to see Dryden Hunt and some others step up and take a spot.

I have just said that of all the pending UFAs next year Lindholm is, to me, the most likely. He’s the most attractive to other teams, has the less ties here, lost his most successful linemates (3 in fact), doesn’t seem as invested as being a Flame as, say, Backlund. Tanev I think could move before the end of the year.

I think I said previously from what I have heard he is one of the surprising ones that dislikes Sutter.

Goes back to what they have been saying that if Sutter stays a lot of guys might just leave.

I wonder if the playoffs and if they win change anything I guess we will see.

Totally agree. Can't remember how many bosses I didn't like but I still did my job to the best of my abilities. That's what I got paid to do. The poor underpaid millionaires.

I may have performed to the best of my abilities under bosses I didn't like but I also left those jobs for a better work environment.

Dang we turned on players quickly for a coach whose shelf life is already short. So ship out guys you think don’t like the coach, get other guys, then change coaches hoping the guys you get are as good as the ones you shipped out? I like it.

Iron fisted management is the only way these petulant players will ever learn to respect your authority. Crush their wills and make them successful
