generally not a fan; however, i recognize that there are generally large dynamics and politics in play which really complicate the issue. I'd assume in this case St. thomas was a smaller city that was used to having a many locals employed by a company that paid well and presumably this plant will pay at a similar scale

also seems greasy that VW was subsidy shopping playing many places off of each other - but seems to me that Amazon did a similar thing and I guess if you are a CEO looking to expand, why not try to get the government to foot the bill and offset your risk

That's a very slanted and uninformed article. The reason VW was threatening to pull from Europe without subsidies is because of the IRA passed in the states. Canada falls within that American subsidy scheme so I'm not sure they'd need to "pony up billions" comparatively.

Here's some other reasons that make it very attractive to VW to go to St Thomas:

1) near other vehicle assembly plants meaning the infrastructure is in place to move the vehicles
2) cleaner electricity grid than most places. This is a big ask from battery makers now
3) nearby population centers with an abundance of skilled labour
4) nearby raw materials and other battery plants so costs for moving inputs is lower


Ontario and Quebec are one of the biggest areas for EV and battery assembly growth because if these reasons

Of all the times not to have a person linked to the Trudeau foundation or the Trudeau family, this is one of them.

Optics is everything in politics, and after the last inquiry into the emergency act with another prominent member of the foundation, you would think someone would like Telford would tell him this is an entirely bad idea.

The fact that the Conservatives are so bereft of actual leadership that they pose no threat to the Liberals must be part of the calculation. In fact, one could argue that the Conservative Party is actually to blame for this!

What can you say about this.

The PM professed everything was good, then he pointed out committees are looking into the issue (the liberals are stonewalling the committees), then he caves to pressure and names a close family friend/member of the board of his foundation to investigate this.

Not an unexpected move I guess…..I am really losing faith in what I thought Canada is/was and am concerned about where we are going

Conservatives can only look in the mirror. They need to get their collective #### together and operate like they actually deserve to form a government.
Beyond pathetic that after all this they still don't stand a chance in hell as long as they keep electing losers and wingnuts as leaders.

I've never voted Liberal at any level.
I think there are serious concerns about the foreign interference issue and the way the government is handling it, but due to national security concerns we will never know the whole truth.
Also, I am not of the opinion that any other government would perform better in this case. Corruption may be the lesser evil versus incompetence.
The natural order of federal politics is 8-10 year period s of liberal government with some periodic conservative intermissions. Trudeau's Liberals are stale, but the Conservatives aren't doing their job offering a viable alternative.
I voted NDP last federal election because I liked the candidate and felt he would be a good fresh voice around here.
