Looks like it also was a successful lobby from New West Public Affairs, led by prominent Alberta conservative and UCP donor Monte Solberg. The Solbergs are definitely in the inner conservative circles with people like Harper and Kenney.

Just more rewarding of contracts to close friends, as they've done in the past. What else is new with this bunch.

Ah, that's the brilliant financial management we've come to expect from Conservatives.

No one could have predicted this. Absolutely no one. How did we end up here? This is completely unexpected. Wow. What unprecedented times we live in.

I have no love for the UCP, but lets be real, the NDP budget, or any budget in Alberta is going to sink or swim based on the price of oil.

Of course, but only Travis Toews and the UCP are telling us that we don't need to decouple from Oil, we can have it all and our future is secured for "Decades to come" and they will ensure balanced budgets forever* while simultaneously putting out a budget that's more reliant on Oil and Gas revenues than before.

*Except in the case of oil and gas declines, surprises, one time program spending on election promises, or pretty much anything else you could ever want.

Actually if oil crashes before the election, history might just repeat itself with an NDP win.

I've been an eligible voter for 44 years now and for the first time in that time (and as I posted here earlier) I signed up to volunteer for a political party. Finally got the call/email this past week and I start volunteering for the NDP this weekend. I'm hoping I can change a few minds.

Conservatives would rather spend $80M on the Tylenol boondoggle (Istanbul-approved!) than a quarter of that on energy efficient LiGhTbUlBs.

Didn't the NDP base a budget or two on $70 Oil when it was projected to trade way lower than that ?

Update...from 2015...

https://financialpost.com/commoditie...on-oil-and-gas

Alberta’s budget is based on an average West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude price of US$50 a barrel for fiscal year 2015-16, US$61 for fiscal year 2016-17 and US$68 for 2017-18. On Wednesday, WTI closed at US$45.94 in New York.

Every AB government budgets on Oil$Gas. It's an issue for all governments in our wonderful province. Nobody is willing to tank their popularity for a PST. They'd rather tank their popularity for other things

Good for you! More people should take an active role in politics. I wish you luck. Tough job ahead since even the last 4 years still have people deeply entrenched in voting conservative blue. Quite shocking given the train wreck that is the UCP.
