Your first clue should have been the table cloths made of paper for crayons, lol.

When I was a poor student, the endless ribs were pretty nice. I don’t know if they still do that?

Well that article has a link to the development application submitted to Rockyview County so that seems promising. And a rebuild of the Springbank Road interchange ramps/exits which is needed, but adding three new roundabouts will be fun.

Re: Calaway Costco

Does the planning usually take this long? I swear I heard about that Costco going in 10+ years ago, but something about them being unhappy about how many entrances or exits there were going to be in the shopping complex (maybe they learned from the Beacon Hill disaster?)

Also they need to knock down that Sears at North Hill and put a Costco there. I feel like I'm in this black hole of no Costcos.

So apparently Greedy Donut across from Chinook is INCREDIBLE which just opened this past weekend.

However, they had lines up to over an hour long and were selling out by mid day a lot of the time. They have shut down until this Wednesday to regroup and have limited customers to 6 donuts per customer (donuts range from $3.75-$4.50 but they absolutely look worth it.

Hoping to scoop a half dozen sometime this week.

There has been a sign up on that property for at least a year now so not sure what all the excitement is about. Still waiting to see some shovels in the ground. Coming soon has been a long time.

From what I recall, a bunch of it is utility work prep to improve the grid and greenline expansion.

Looks interesting and it reminds me of Polish donuts, Paczki. I'm not big on filled or cream donuts so this doesn't look like a shop that I would check out but if they expand their offerings I might check it out.

At $4.50/doughnut, I think they got the name of the place right.

Considering that regular Tim's donuts are $1.50 and specialty Tim's donuts are $2.30, paying $4.50 for a fresh, handmade Greedy donut doesn't sound so bad.

We took a look at properties in Harmony last year, and we were told that the group building the shopping complex clearly stated that the exterior design of the businesses must conform to their design scheme. Apparently, Costco came in, ignored the requirements, and submitted with their standard exterior grey/red design, and it was rejected.

If it does finally get built, I'm curious to see what it will look like.

I doubt the veracity of that story, psyang. When it comes to "power centre" malls, big tenants like Costco get their way. The developer either plays ball with them, or Costco walks. I don't do much work on commercial/retail developments anymore, but when I did, I never once saw a developer dictate the design of finishes to a tenant like Costco.

Costco will work with municipalities to revise setbacks, drive aisles in the parking lot; things like that. Aesthetically, they always look the same though, and Costco will never ever compromise its branding.

Not true. The Costco in/near downtown Houston looks nothing like the corporate standard for stores.

I know. I was thinking in terms of Chinook: Sears, Zellers, Nordstrom, Saks, and Target have all spent time in that mall. I didn't think The Bay would be the last of them.

I know it's crazy. My experiences in the bay are these prices with signs that say 60% off. Which makes me think am I being lied to. Probably the latter.

When you used to go to Zeller's pre-teen without your mom and leave your bike outside, you got real shopping. The Deer Valley mall had card shops, toy shops, swingers and old people losing their teeth, bakeries. That #### was exciting because you were young and your parents were at work.

When I look at the mall, I know it used to be a place pre-internet, pre-mobile texting to socialize and it's kind of transited to that place again. So for in the summer for example; when it's really hot the malls will be packed. People go there to be air conditioned and spend a little time, but I think other than the flagships the mall is for tire kicking. They buy an ice cream or something in the food court. Try a Nespresso, but most of their buying is done online and most of their returning is done at Flagship.

Mom or Dad check's amazon and finds it for half price and it short circuits all the kids and mall culture and local economy.

You just have a bunch of flagship stores "advertising" their product, that's mostly not available and has better availability online. So in summary, and ChatGPT didn't write this, you ultimately are having this big chain gentrified experience in the mall which feels wildly disconnected. The mall was the carnival, now it's the mind warp nespresso machine.
