As long as she’s happy I guess that’s all that matters.

i'm ok he chose the Blue jackets. Imagine if the Dweeb chose the Devils? Prob would be challenging the Bruins as the top team in the league and he would have 100 points already.
Now he can be closer to home 6 weeks early.. lol

Yeah one of the little man's miscalculations was how many teams were going to bid or fight for him, and the answer was pretty close to 1 (Flames). Mistook himself for a superstar, and wound up probably making a mistake.

They offered him like 9 from what Pierre Lebrun confirmed.

Now his career can rot in Columbus. I hope they don’t get Bedard. And all along it was his unhappy wife. That’s her right to voice her opinion. Good on him for caring so much about her. But man. You gotta think he’s had some second thoughts about how all that has played out. I’m over it now though. Our team is a mess also. And likely would’ve been a mess with him being overpaid.

I blame Chuck Fletcher. If he was a competent GM and cleared the cap room to bring Gaudreau home to Philly most Flames fans would have understood the decision and moved on. Instead having Gaudreau go to not his home town for less money and less success felt like an insult to the city, team, and fans.

Are you really this surprised ? Jg and MT leaving the Flames after career years are going to be debated for all of time! Rightly so. In all fairness

All signs pointed to them both liking Calgary, right?
If that's the case, what surprises me is that the conversation wasn't more like this:
"Johnny, I miss home, I'd like if you signed in Philly, or at least closer to home"
"Babe, I can earn max dollars here on this contract, and really setup our family for generations, and we have a chance to win a Cup, and I like my boss. Besides, don't we both like Calgary? There is a lot of unknown in FA, maybe our only option ends up being Columbus, lol"
"Yeah, you're right. We'll move back after the contract is done and live like gods"
Johnny was poorly advised is all I can say.

We all know it broke down at the last minute and it likely had to do with family reasons. They ultimately made a decision on what was best for them despite the fact he probably liked it here. Was his wife involved in the decision? Of course, but trying to "blame" it on his wife is a bad look imo.

This isn’t surprising news and logically, it always made the most sense. Johnny loved it here whereas a pregnant Philly girl with no friends or family around would naturally not be happy. Obviously I’m disappointed, but I don’t blame her or Johnny for their decision, this is life.

Yes but I assume they are comparing the apples to apples 7 year deals that would have been available on FA day. After the clock ticked midnight the 8 year $84m deal was off the table.

I mean.. clearing cap space is one of the hardest things in the NHL to do. Especially if your assets suck. Dude was stuck and I'm not sure many other GM's could have cleared enough cap space given the same situation either.

Sounds like the twenty-something females of Calgary really let us down here.

But once the dealine for the 8 year deal had passed, Tre announced that Johnny had decided to go to FA and not re-sign with the Flames. It was pretty much common understanding at that point that Johnny wasn't coming back on a 7 year deal.
