Yeah, see, that's the sort of thing that gives Tucker Carlson really easy ammo.

FFS. Just make good movies.

You should watch the animated movie that did win, Pinocchio. If you think Puss in Boots had you ruminating on death and loss…

Hm, I've never found any version of Pinocchio particularly interesting, nor am I overfond of the 'live action' remake trend that Disney's been on and I don't have/don't intend to get Disney+. I may watch it at some point in time in the future, but have very little interest in it.

It’s not a disney live action remake. It’s directed by Guillermo Del Toro for Netflix and is stop motion.

Looks like Prime Video now has exclusive rights to Everything Everywhere in Canada, and they aren’t charging a rental or purchase fee.

Yeah, you’re thinking of the Disney+ live action Pinocchio remake which also release last year and is hot trash.

This Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio on Netflix and it’s magnificent.

Agreed del Toro’s Pinocchio is magnificent both the story and visually. A Pinocchio created in a drunken rage that meets death and attends fascist youth camp. Good stuff.

No conversation can be had about the merits of someone's work without discussing every horrible mistake they made as a person. I mean, it's pretty hilarious knowing we all have terrible secrets that we hope nobody ever finds out about.
Being married to Sharon Tate who was murdered in the Manson Murders, The Pianist, Knife in the Water, and living in France… basically in that order.

I get your point, but I think you might be projecting a little bit. I don’t think that most people consider the worst thing an artist had done/allegedly done when thinking of that person. Some do, and they usually bring it up, and I would say a lot of people know about those things usually, but the easiest way to bump that up the order is by bringing it up and reminding people which is why people who really only associate artists with the one thing do it. So, effectively, you’re just doing their job for them (it’s also why people who obsess about when an artist got “cancelled” are also funny, they’re basically doing the same legwork to ensure people are continuously reminded of the bad thing an artists (allegedly sometimes) did).

Every conversation is going to go that way if you contribute to it going that way. And I wouldn’t say we all have terrible secrets. We all have secrets of varying degrees that we’d probably prefer stay secret (usually just to avoid uncomfortable topics or embarrassment)… but now we know yours are especially terrible lol.

What were we talking about? Oh, right. Annie Hall is great and Woody Allen is a great director who somehow manages to also be a terrible director. Like Coppola and Malick, capable of making the finest movies you’re ever seen and the worst crap that has ever made it to film. Pretty incredible.

Not sure I agree, 1917 was shot very well but to me was just a generic war movie other than that. All Quiet did a much better job of actually looking and feeling like WW1

Although both had the same problem as Dunkirk, which was where the hell is everyone?

You're both wrong. The superior Pinocchio movie to come out last year was this one.

Stiff animation to portray Pinocchio's wooden makeup. The exquisite voice acting of Pauly Shore. Instant masterpiece.

Depends on what the worst thing they did was. Bill Cosby? Yep, that's the first thing you think about. Woody Allen, probably not... first thing I think about when someone says Woody Allen is either Annie Hall or Blue Jasmine. Holy f*** is Blue Jasmine a good movie. Kevin Spacey... maybe, maybe not the first thing that comes to mind? Not sure.

An interview with Michelle Yeoh that will give you an idea of how talented and experienced she is. This woman out stunts Jackie Chan!

People forgot she was Miss World Malaysia!

And then one of her really early movies. Yes, HK movies were this good in the 80s.

When I think of Michelle Yeoh, I think of Crouching Tiger.

Love that movie.

Is it not remarkable to you that he palled with the Epstein crew and all 3 of his accusers died shortly before their trials against him started?

IDK. Maybe if three out of three accusers died. But since it's three out of 15 I don't know that we have to start flapping around like conspiracy theorists just yet.

Has anyone successfully taken the stand against Spacey yet? He seems to be getting what he needs right when he needs it to slide through all this untouched by the legal system. He's got another trial coming up in June, my gut says hes going to do very well.

Well, I can google it as well as you can, but, yes, there was a trial in October 2022. Anthony Rapp versus Kevin Spacey in a $40 million lawsuit. Spacey was found not guilty. It was a three-week jury trial.

Maybe there have been more...IDK.

for what it's worth the burden of proof threshold required in a court of law can be (is usually) stacked against survivors

just wanted to make sure I mentioned that.
