We don't have a LB or a 2nd GK so hopefully there are a few roster announcements coming

They do have a 2nd keeper training with them named Sterling Kerr. He played at MRU. He actually played on my futsal team the other night.

They are deciding on whether they'll offer him a contract or look to sign someone else, but he has apparently been impressing in training.

I assume they've got guys in camp (USports, Foothills, other) as they need the bodies with only 19 guys named on the roster. Would make sense that they'll keep a few of them

Alarcon will be the LB with Aird at RB. We have no defensive depth at any position across the backline though.

Isn't Alarcon right footed? Maybe he'll tuck inside when attacking rather than providing width. Could be an interesting wrinkle.

Any news on a Cavs kit reveal or some kind of pre-season get-together? Last years thing at the Rose & Crown was super fun but now they're gone I don't know if there is anything new in the works? With the HFX jersey coming out this week I was curious if we would see something from the Cavs soon.

Alberta Soccer announced a League1 Alberta exhibition series for 2023. Includes both men's and women's series.

Men's series will have Calgary Foothills, Cavalry U-20, Edmonton Scottish, BTB Academy and St. Albert Impact. Women's series will have Calgary Foothills, Calgary Blizzard, Edmonton Scottish, BTB Academy and St. Albert Impact.

A bit further along than the exhibition series from 2021 and 2022, but still needs another few teams to have a full ledged league. I know Cochrane Wolves had mentioned they were interested on Twitter a little while ago, not sure if they're ready to put up the money for it.

Wonder why Calgary can’t find 3 clubs like Edmonton can for the series.

There just aren't a lot of clubs that either have or want to spend the kind of money it takes to make a League1 Alberta work. Sounds like it's happening in 2024 though so there must be another club or two on board.

There are no other clubs that have the structure in Men’s soccer in Calgary. Scottish has a long history, and it’ll mostly be their AMSL team. The best men’s teams in Calgary are the University teams. Blizzards are trying to develop a U23 side, but they’re poor. Same for Rangers.

Apparently Cavalry are discontinuing the shuttles from Somerset station to Spruce Meadows. I cannot believe they would move forward with such a short sighted decision...

Busses from Ship and Anchor are going to be pretty popular this year.

Why are they doing this? If it's a capacity issue, why not just reduce the amount of shuttles? Or is literally no one taking this shuttle?

I would rather take the buses from the Ship anyways, probably takes just as long haha

The usual live music at the Ship on Saturday's is cancelled for April 15 so the Ship is holding a big watch party for the season opener against Forge. Game will be on the big screen.

Big Rock will be on special and will be giving away a Cavalry jersey and scarf as well.

Ship and Anchor have stepped up big time this offseason so hopefully we can pack the place every game this year and bring back the good supporters pub vibes we had during the first year.

It sounds like Spruce Meadows is just discontinuing the shuttles as a whole, not just for Cavalry games. Club told us that they weren't well used, but a lot of people say they were well used. Just sounds like cost cutting to me.

I often saw a line of people waiting after matches, and full buses departing. Shortsighted move, IMO.

I wish that the club would allow for a formal relationship with the supporters where these decisions could be discussed and consulted on. Clubs in Europe treat their supporters more like stakeholders, but here in North America, we're simply customers.

Obviously the Foot Soldiers have a relationship with the club. I'm sure that it is a "good" one, but my impression is that it doesn't provide the FS any sort of leverage or consultation on decisions like this that impact supporters at large. I think that's wrong, especially when they are very quick to boast about the atmosphere that the FS bring to matches, use photos in marketing, etc.

I totally agree on that point. I think it would be a great step. It's kind of weird though, almost like the club wants the supporters (of course!), but also doesn't want to "endorse" everything, if that makes sense? I'm struggling with the best way to put this into words, but it's a little off from my vantage point.

We have a weird relationship with Spruce Meadows. Obviously they are still learning soccer and how that sporting culture is the polar opposite to equestrian. Sometimes they are great to work with. Other times they do things like this, or the situation we have every few years where they demand security cracks down, everyone gets pissed, and they immediately back off.

I think Tommy and the players are the ones who really gets supporters culture and how vital it is to a club. Everyone else, not so much.

I'm meeting with the Cavs' head office in a two weeks for some corporate stuff; anything you want me to bring up with them while there?
