The Jets' magic number against us is 24 - any combination of them getting points and us not getting points, that adds up to 24, and we can't catch them

The Flames' magic number against the Jets is 37 - any combination of points from the Flames, and points missed from the Jets, totaling 37, and they can't catch us.

If we beat the Yotes and they lose to the Cane that number becomes 33? Am I understand it correctly?

The optimist in me died a little when I read this post…

That is still a huge number.

I'm sorry.

The optimist in me take it one game at a time and 2 points at a time. So, tomorrow, I'll cheer hard for beating the Yotes and curse hard for the Jets to lose to the Canes.

The reason for optimism is the recent play of Marky.

Sutter knew that the hopes of Calgary rested on Marky finding his form, which he has seemingly done overnight.

I am seeing a lot of 12-4 as the projection to get in pre-Ottawa game, so very little room for error. I think it would be good to break down this very hard, but not a difficult task if you break it up in sections of 4, needing to grab 3 wins per 4 games. On the plus side, we won last game.

Game / Date / Team
67 / March 12 / OTT (W 5-1)
68 / March 14 / @AZ
69 / March 16 / @VGK
70 / March 18 / DAL

71 / March 20 / @LAK
72 / March 21 / @ANA
73/ March 23 / VGK
74 / March 25 / SJS

75 / March 28 / LAK
76 / March 31 / @VAN
77 / April 2 / ANA
78 / April 4 / CHI

79 / April 5 / @WPG
80 / April 8 / @VAN
81 / April 10 / NSH
82 / April 12 / SJS

The hardest series is the one we're currently in. Also, we cannot afford to lose to Anaheim anymore. Aside from that, you can kind of see the teams you could afford to lose to, AS LONG as you are beating the inferior teams. Which is what the Flames have struggled with lately.

I've no doubt we can make noise in the playoffs, it's just a matter of getting there first.

Yes, that is correct, assuming the Jets game ended in regulation.

If we beat the Yotes and the Jets lost in OT, the number would be 34.

I prefer to use the Magic # in games, the smaller number seems more palatable.

So 18.5 games for Winnipeg and 19 for Edmonton.

With 30 games combined, 18.5 or 19 need to go our way.

It is a point gained last night, not the 2 we wanted but something. It can still be done.

Not going to lie, that point would have been huge. Need to keep an eye on Nashville, but at least with the Jets loss and Flames OTL, brings the magic number down to 17. So 28 games left between the two and 17 need to go our way, 18 vs Nashville.

A win in Vegas will be huge.

So what's the realistic record for us to finish these last 14 games?

We just finished going 3-1-1 in the last 5 games. Assuming we can do this again the next few segments:

3-1-1
3-1-1
3-1

20 points puts us to 94. We would need Jets to go 7-7 and Preds to go 9-8.

Jets are not exactly lighting it up. I easily see a scenerio where Nashville passes both of us

One silver lining with the Preds, is that we only trail them by one RW. If we could leap frog them in that category, then we would have the tie breaker.

It would be different if the team actually showed promise at any point this season, except maybe the first 7 games or so. There has been no indication that they can put together a substantial winning streak, so expecting it now is just setting yourself up for disappointment. If it does happen, it will be one for the history books.
