Default Flames 5 Senators 1

Flames 5 Senators 1

- Backlund/Lindolm/Andersson the tre kronar get them up early
- Huberdeau's line finishes it off
- Markstrom rock solid all night
- Jets win again and spoil the party

Markstrom just looks completely different than earlier in the year - calm, square to the shooter, challenging when he should and staying quiet when he should.

Yes, it's probably too late for this season, but him playing better is a massive boost for the organization - worth far more than the difference between the 12th and the 15th pick.

This. If Markstrom and Huberdeau pick it up, that’s a head start and makes me way more optimistic about next year.

In 2020-21, Gaudreau had 49 points in 56 games (to lead the team no less) and Markstrom was a pedestrian .904. The Flames finished outside in a finish remarkably like this season. The next year Gaudreau had 115 and Markstrom was .922 and the Flames had 111 pts.

I'm still puzzled by his play even with the pregnant wife.

We saw a career year from Johnny with a pregnant wife.

Lindholm and his wifes have had some devastating things happen but he only looked lost to start the year but was fine after.

Has to be more to it.

With goaltenders I'm not so sure as it's probably the most mental taxing of the positions and you see it can be year to year for a lot of them. I'm just happy that the Flames could beat an Ottawa team that has had their number over the last handful of years. Not sure if they will make the playoffs but any improved play you hope can carry over into next season kind of like what happened in the bubble.

It's almost as if every player isnt a robot and reacts differently to different pressures in life.....which often manifest themselves on the ice.

Yeah so we really dropped the ball with him didn't we?

His on performance dipped considerably and they guy was broken mentally they should have allowed him time to seek some help. Mental health doesn't seem to be taken seriously enough. It's not even about the game at that point.

Uhhh...ok.

I guess if off ice distractions are considered "mental health" issues, you'd have a point?

We dont even know for sure what the issue was for him. Could be that he simply fell into a slump with his confidence for whatever reason, and worked/fought his way back through it.

So...

I'm guessing the worst thing for him at that time would have been to take the game away from him.

Yeah who knows I'm just saying it seemed to bother him a lot.

You don't often hear a player come out and say I suck I suck at hockey.

So you're making diagnoses on players' mental health now? Based on a comment from another poster?

Maybe dial that back a bit
