I don’t think it’s that uncommon for coaches to have minimal dialogue with players. Especially old school coaches. They’re not in the habit of asking the people they’re in charge of for advice or feedback.

They’ve tried everything with this guy and nothing works. He needs to be accountable for his poor play. I don’t mind mixing things up and trying different things but as expected the result as been the same.

Also that’s probably a conversation the assistants would be having….not necessarily the head coach.

I think Sutter does not know Huberdeau is playing in his off wing forever. Sutter spends most of his time to coach Lucic on how to skate and keep the puck in the offensive zone. Unfortunately this is 10 years too late.

My recollection is that he put Huberdeau on the right win when he moved Lucic up there and kept him there with Ritchie.

Didn't he move to his off wing when Pelletier was moved up?

He's been on his off wing since December.

You need to move stars players to a position they have not played so can insert a offensive juggernaut Milan Lucic into the lineup.

Not going to question a pro hockey player, clearly he prefers the left side.

But I'd love to get into where on the ice he sees a difference.

From a coaching stand point the offensive zone is more of a F1, F2 and F3 thing with flexibility on the rush and the attack.

It's more about being on your offside in the defensive zone which can actually help some players (Tkachuk sees the ice better on his offside with his body open to his defenseman).

So curious what he's talking about.

My mind's eye sees him shooting and taking passes on the left side in the offensive zone regardless of where they draw up the lines.

Listen to his interview it you haven't he explained how in the D zone it's easier to take rims but when in the offensive zone be felt like he was in his backhand which isn't comfortable for him and he closed off his shoulder.

pretty sure it was Lucic-Kadri-Huberdeau before that. Doubt he was on the left in any games in 2023.

Huberdeau has had a #### season, no reason to sugarcoat that. But Sutter deserves a good chunk of the blame ... I mean, just put your god damn star players into a position to succeed. It shouldn't be rocket science. It doesn't make sense to keep Kadri and Huberdeau together for months when it clearly doesn't work. It doesn't make sense to put Huberdeau on his off wing when he's clearly not comfortable with it. It doesn't make sense to move your star players into these positions just to accommodate bottom sixers.

Huberdeau should play with another center, as he just doesn't click with Kadri, and a finisher on the right wing. Either way, I have little doubt that he's going to explode once Sutter leaves. He's way too good of a hockey player to not bounce back at some point.

But he's not pinned to the right wall in the offensive zone at all.

And I honestly don't remember being on the right side inside the offensive zone all that often.

So yeah surprised to see, but not going to suggest he's wrong. He knows himself.

I think the way he describes it is he’s trying to protect the puck while at the same time looking to pass, which makes him turn his hips. So he is kinda pinned to the wall.

And even if it doesn’t make sense generally, if it’s what he is used to and prefers, then fine. Just like Brodie playing RD left handed.

Have they? How many games has the team's best winger played on the same line as the team's best center? By my count 6 games. That's not trying everything IMO. In fact it's being extremely stubborn as given the team's scoring struggles you would have thought he would have put Lindholm and Huberdeau together for a good stretch to hopefully develop chemistry. Sutter made that late season change in the bubble to Lindholm, Tkachuk, and Gaudreau and it paid off big time the next season and for whatever reason it was a line that escaped the previous coaching staff. It seems like history is repeating now with Sutter in charge.

I personally don't think we see much of a difference in his play or stats I think for this season it's a lost cause. Lots of things to look at say why it hasn't worked but I think he's a guy who put a ton of pressure on himself to do well and follow what the coaches want and he's too wound up now.
