You think its bad when the instructions don't change.

We were coming home from Orlando last year and they were trialing a new type of scanner where you don't need to remove your electronics or liquids. But only 1 of the lines had it.

So they had a guy (who nobody could see) yelling "this line leave laptops and liquids in your bags".

Now, Orlando is not mostly used by frequent business travellers. This is mostly families with kids who are all exhausted from Disney/Universal. I estimate those instructions were followed by approx 3% of people. So the other 2 lines basically everyone had to get stopped to have their liquids/electronics taken out of their bags. While the line with the test they were stopping tons of people to have them put their stuff back into their bags for the purposes of the test.

I have flown in planes for over 30 years. Things are definitely getting slower, and I think just has to do with pure idiocy and inefficiency.

Hey guys, connect the little path to the door, open the ####ing door, and let people leave. Why is this taking 20 minutes? Meanwhile why do people struggle so much getting off a plane. The line of people waiting to go down the aisle? Yeah, if that is remotely close to your seat, get the #### ready to go. So much slow moving and doddling and struggling with bags in the overhead bin.

Flying blows now. It's just a straight up awful experience. ZERO customer service and they almost seem like they love to waste everyone's time. No respect for customer's time whatsoever. This all really shouldn't be that difficult.

Oh now everyone is loaded, bags are on the plane all ready to go. Okay, NOW I guess we can start de-icing the wings for the next 30 mins. Like, wtf, do that while people are loading?
Entitlement, plain and simple.

People are struggling because they take their entire house with them when travelling. I travel pretty light, I guess I'm low maintenance. But people need their lotions and their electronics and their pillows and their stuffed animals etc...

So people are now abusing carry on overweights and there's never enough room in the overhead. So when it comes time to leave, everyone is struggling. It's selfishness. People complain that they have to be back in their seats too soon, have to turn off their tvs too soon, have to open the blinds too soon. They could be getting their #### together instead.

Yes the dude telling everyone to take out their laptop and put it in a separate bin was talking to you.

Bringing on fluids or other items that need an individual clear baggy, then ####ing do it earlier than when your stuff is about to go through x-ray, or buy some travel shampoo FFS.

I didn't travel a tonne for work, but this new job has me flying every second week. Nexus card incoming.
Exact opposite experience at the American airport I use. There, you leave everything in your bag and put it in the bin.

Liquids over 5 oz (?) need to be inspected. I had a one litre liquid prescription and was concerned I would have issues. Nope, they had an external scanner. Beep-boop, you are good to go Sir.

I’m not sure if Calgary is just behind in technology and change is coming soon or if the security services are reluctant to change or trying to maintain job importance, but it definitively seems a little strange that putting your lip gloss and mascara in a clear baggie is going to save the world.

I want to start an airline with no security. Fata it. I'll roll the dice on whether or not a terrorist is going to hijack my plane to Saskatoon. Just let me pull up to the airport, walk up the stairs onto my plane and get on my way. It's seriously ####ing faster to drive anywhere under six hours than the rigmarole that is flying.

I hear that, but it appears to be different airports.

Swanberg Airines used to be like that.

Park outside the terminal, walk 20 feet, toss your bags on the cart and walk to the plane when instructed.

Only went to Grand Prairie though...

I think I'd do a discount airline with no overhead bins at all. The seats are slightly elevated to give you a bit more room under the seat in front of you, which also has the added benefit of more leg room and maybe even a bit of a calf rest... but that's all you get for storing your stuff. Well, that and the pocket on the back of the seat in front of you. No wheeled luggage allowed unless you are a senior or have a disability. Rules for disembarking are all aisle seats first, then all middle seats, then all window seats - not front to back. No one may remove their shoes.

An overhead rack that holds jackets would be OK. But this loading and unloading by seat is silly, since you break up couples and people with kids...no one is unloading like that.

No chance you'd catch me on a flight completely full of lawyers and accountants.

I think we just need to train flight attendants to be more like drill instructors.

Nah. Couples and families can figure it out once they're in the terminal 100 yards away - just wait in the gate area. Exceptions can be made for people with small children.

The ####ty part about Canadian airport security is all the nonsense BS they make you do which just slows down the whole process. Laptops and large electronics out, liquids out, shoes off, belt off, etc. The US is much more streamlined and easy as you just put your bag in the bin and walk through the scanner.

LOL. Have you met people? They'd clog up the exit bridge waiting. Exiting a row at a time doesn't really take any extra time if you aren't hauling bags out of the overhead.

Are you kidding? Children can't even cross the street at the crosswalk in a playground zone these days, you expect them to walk themselves to the terminal?
