With the Flames luck, I see them managing the tank down to 8th, magically winning the lottery to move up to #1....which newly appointed GM Darryl uses to draft some plug ranked #26 by central scouting because he has good net front presence, plays the game the right way and just "gets it".
This organization just can't have nice things. It needs an exorcism, but I'll settle for a house cleaning of the entire hockey operations staff.

I am extremely confident that this scenario will not play out as described.

Yeah, Bedard coming here would mean retooling nearly completed.

Idk why we are even talking about the Flames getting a stroke of luck in the draft. Only franchise to never get a top 3 pick, seattle has been around for two years and already was handed a higher pick than the Flames have gotten in 5 decades. The Flames, along with the Canucks, can and should never believe the NHL will give them a top 3 pick. Only after the Oilers took full advantage of their pure ineptness and deliberate tanking did the NHL change the rules. I have zero faith in the lottery ever giving a handout to the Flames. Even when the Flames tried to go full tank the Oilers still won the lottery with getting the 3rd pick in 2014, after already getting 3 first overall picks. The Flames will pick between 8-16 until a genuine miracle occurs. Maybe if the Flames were the New York rangers we could expect a lottery hit combined with being able to poach the best NCAA free agents. Alas we are not that fortunate and not one the leagues darlings.

Doubt the Flames get Bedard based on the percentages, but whoever they draft, hope this player has some dynamic qualities to their game and most importantly, the ability to make plays up the middle of the ice. This team's rush game is so incredibly paltry compared to other teams or even previous years here.

And it was never going to happen at any point since then. Like, you have to be SO SO SO bad to have a shot here. Like incredibly embarrassingly bad.

You only have to be as bad as the Flames currently are to have a shot. There’s a 3% chance Bedard will be playing for this team next year if they stay where they’re at. Even 2nd worst place only has 18%.

Fun to discuss it though.
It’s sports. Fun and dumb is fine. We’re not trying to cure cancer here.

Two huge blown points tonight. Passing so many teams. This one is tough to swallow. Full steam ahead to finishing 10th?

The Flames should have tanked when Johnny left and Tkachuk expressed his desire to leave.
Instead of trading him for Weegar and Huberdeau, they should have traded him for multiple firsts. They should have kept Monahan instead of paying a first to move him.
Trade Andersson for a massive haul.
Trade Markstrom for a huge haul.
Trade Hanifin for a really solid haul.
Then at draft time, group some firsts together to move up the draft if they weren't already in the top 5.
I would sign up for an honest-to-goodness rebuild rather than watch this sad and tired group chase 8th.

Are you a STH? If so, would you still be a STH if they did a massive rebuild?
I'm not a STH but if I was and the Flames did a huge rebuild, I would not be paying top dollar to go to every game.
Since I mostly watch the games on TV, I am okay with a rebuild as I just won't watch as many games.

My company is, so technically not my money.
But I know that I had a lot more fun at games 2013-2016 when Johnny, Monny and Bennett were young and exciting and we had hope for the future.
I would have a lot more fun watching Bedard losing games in a Flames jersey than Huberdeau, Kadri and Markstrom losing games in a Flames jersey.

That was really a stroke of luck and most rebuilds aren't like that. Johnny, who is an extremely exciting player to watch and was even moreso when he was young. Johnny was drafted before the Flames tank even began. The Flames were able to insert him into the lineup, in the first year of the tank, bringing crazy amounts of skill and excitement.
The exact same thing happened the year after Fleury was traded...Iginla emerged out of nowhere to be the most exciting player the Flames had ever had.
The Flames have never gone through a legit rebuild, despite the ownership and management twice actively attempting to do so. Imagine a 1999/2000 Flames roster without Iginla. Or a 2014/15 roster without Gaudreau.

The Flames will wind up picking 12th! This is the way.
How many lottery balls are picked now? Is it two? If so, the Flames will sit in 14th and then the 15th and 16th will win the lottery, bumping the Flames down a couple spots. Now THIS is the way.

It'd be nice if the Flames would play either .750 or .250 down the stretch but we know that won't happen haha

you can only move up 10 spots, 13th is the last spot that could move up to 3rd. But right now if the season ended Flames you be picking 15th.
edit: looks like if you finish with 15th and win you could still move up to 5th, with a 0.5% chance of doing so.
