So fortunate the Flames have a forward looking, proactive management team who sold off some of the higher performing players for futures in what looks to be a great draft this year.

Would really suck if they held onto them and didn’t do anything at all….

You can’t ship out your core that you just signed for 6-8 yrs. It’s clear as day they have stopped playing for him

Zadorov’s post-game interview was interesting. He stated the team basically didn’t show up. He was asked if he knew why. He said, “no.” I think the team tuned out Darryl a while back, and I think a new coach would probably result in the team playing much better.

Maybe a “Fire Sutter” chant through the entire 3rd period of the next home game will clarify for Darryl who the fans are booing. What a prick.

In glad to see CP is back to the narrative of letting the inmates run the asylum.

Can't be letting the top players be held accountable in performing to their expectations.

A cautionary tale for those who want to get your wish is what I say to that.

We will have additional evidence soon about whether the players have rejected Sutter when we try to sign our pending UFAs this summer. I think we will see more players choose to walk to free agency rather than sign on for more Sutter hockey. That's not the only factor players will be considering of course, but having a good boss and happy work environment is pretty freek'n important if you have the choice.

If it was a small handful of players having a poor season that would be one thing but it's most of the team. Hard not to look at the coach. It's clear Sutter can coach but it's his stubbornness and gruff personality that starts grinding on players as it's why he has a shorter shelf life.

Darryl Sutter has the lowest playoff appearance percentage since Hartley amongst Flames Head Coaches during the last decade. If he misses next year he will tie Hartley. I am just hoping that Darryl can be Gulutzan good.

3 wins in 13 games since the all-star break...

You weren't persuaded by the strength of schedule argument back then?

I've had this feeling for about 8 weeks now and I can't shake it.

Having a GM with no contract and a coach that was extended is another stupid thing this org has done.

To me it feels like its probably toxic and a bit of a power struggle behind the scenes. It really doesnt feel like Sutter is doing all he can though to put this team in a position to succeed.

The coach has a system that does not win games, has stuck with failing lines, and mostly refuses to line match.

You can sit and argue forever about which one of these factors is more important than the others, maybe you don't think one or two of these are factors, but the important question is which of these factors are most easily fixed. What I do know is that practically speaking, trading away a bunch of underachieving very expensive players is the least likely way the team gets fixed.
Every single aspect of this post is an equal factor. I'd maybe push for a slight edge to Sutter for sticking with the same lines for too long. You have to ask yourself if keeping your newly minted long term investments stuck in the same broken loop all yeah or make some attempt to help them out.

I also curious as to when exactly Sutter started thinking he should be GM again. Especially after he very openly stated he has no interest in the position when he was hired back.

It was dumb speculation from a TSN article and people ran with it

The fire Sutter crowd.

With having 5 coaches in the past nine(?) years, we're overdue in changing the man behind the bench.

Coaches can only last in this city for two seasons before fans want them out the door.

Nevermind that Sutter is the first coach with actual pedigree behind the bench since Hartley. He's a future Hall of Famer, and JUST won the Jack Adams last season.

But he doesn't know how to coach anymore according to the crowd that wants him gone.

Don't get it twisted, I think criticism of him is fair since he has done some things I haven't agreed with this season. The team is having a dreadful season, do of course it starts with him.

But I recognize that the top players haven't been playing anywhere where they need to for the team to be successful. The way they've underperformed on ice I don't see as coaching tactics issues. They're execution and focus deficiency.

I also think that the makeup of the roster is inadequate for goal production both offensively and defensively. The loss of the two players who left last season, and Kylington absence hasn't been replaced.

I'm placing the primary blame on the top players - Markstrom included - and Treliving for building this team.
