Jets might fall right out of it.

They honestly look lost. I hope these guys give them a jolt.

Let's see Ritchie with a hot start. Put him on PP2

After Mangiapane's play with Stetcher at the worlds, I was sure we were going to sign him a few years ago, and was surprised he went to Arizona (I assume we didn't make him an offer at the time). Looks like he's got good hands and some decent wheels, so hopefully he can find a role.
Not sure it really move the needle for this season though.

I guess he and Gilbert can swap in and out? Gilbert has had a few weaker games lately, so I'm sure it won't hurt for him to watch a few from the press box.

In a season where so much has gone wrong, the bottom of the roster depth on D was disappointing.

Valimaki, Mackey, Stone, Meloche - would have thought you could piece together a capable #6 defenseman from that group but never happened. Gilbert thankfully has surprised a little.

I get the Kylington issue was a factor but almost every team the Flames play are missing guys on the back end. The lack of capable depth was really exposed this year.

I like this deal, wish they could have done it sooner.

Like Tre said, there's nothing more dangerous than players on expiring contracts. Whatever the new guys have to offer, we'll see their best effort for the final 20 games of the season.

We’ve had 3 Ritchies on our team- Byron, Nick, and Brett. Maybe we’ll draft Calum Ritchie in this year’s draft, and complete the set….

This exactly.

It's down the list of problems for this season, but the fact is that the defensive depth - which was considered a strength going into the season - was a complete failure.

Stetcher isn't the answer, but he is a hell of a lot better than Mackey. And he is a better replacement for Kylington and his puck moving ability, than Stone or Gilbert.

Yes, it should have happened a month ago, but who's to say whether that was ever on the table - perhaps ARI figured they could get some picks for him at the deadline. At least the Flames didn't give up any picks.

Over the years there has been some background chatter on Nick Ritchie, so this does provide a chance to bring him in and see if he could work with this team and this coach. Although he's bounced around a lot and I wonder if he would have been given these chances had he been a third round pick vs a top 10 selection.

Looks like Nick Ritchies goals are all in close or slot area, seems like he's not afraid to go in the dirty areas.

I've got sad news for anyone excited about this Ritchie. Like Scorp said - he just disappears for weeks at a time and does nothing despite being a huge guy who's supposed to be a power forward.

If we paid him anything he'd be a whipping boy in no time.

Didn't Ritchie have a strong start to his time in Arizona last season after struggling in Toronto?

Let's hope he can repeat that this year.

He’s probably going to play on the 4th line. So 10 minutes or less. Guessing he was a throw in to get Stecher. If he doesn’t pan out he disappears in the offseason.

Not that big a deal in my mind.

That said, Zadorov has been better than I ever expected. Stone was disappointing this season. But I thought Gilbert has been good, except last game and if they’d gone with him sooner, if would have been better. With Stecher in Gilbert’s a decent 7 and Stone is done for his career I suspect.
