The last Troy we had on the team was amazing!
All kidding aside, fairly meaningless move but seems like we got the better value.

Had hoped for something bigger, but Stecher is good enough to play regularly, Tanev would've vouched for him, and he's liked everywhere he's been.
Plus it's always good not to have to break in the goalie/new defenceman relationship--Markie and Stecher know each other's patterns and it should be a fairly seamless transition.

I think Mackey needed to be on a team where he can make mistakes and still be able to play. I’m sure he will flourish in Arizona similar to Valimaki. Good for him.

First of all we gave up our 13/14th forward, and 7/8th defenseman.
Second Nick has something like 100 more points than Brett in his career. He has shown a lot more of a scoring touch, and has been close to 0.5 ppg in a couple of seasons.

Third Stretcher had 2G, 4Pts, in 4GP in last year's playoffs he was also +4. Seems like he likes playing against EDM.

That said, this is too little too late, and I doubt it will make a difference this season.

Brad said in his press conference today that one of the reasons behind moving Ritchie is Duehr making the push of being a regular NHL’er and wanting to open up a spot for him on the RW. I was happy to hear that

			I agree about Duehr.
Also, I'm hoping Nick Ritchie being acquired means that Milan Lucic might go to the press box because Nick Ritchie is huge and left-handed.

 Dube - Lindholm - Toffoli
 Pelletier - Kadri - Huberdeau
 Mangiapane - Backlund - Coleman
 Ritchie - Lewis - Duehr
 Lucic - Ruzicka -

 Weegar - Andersson
 Hanifin - Tanev
 Zadorov - Stecher
 Gilbert -

 Markstrom
 Vladar

I guess what did you expect. They pushed their chips all in over the summer. They aren’t going to blow up the roster beyond tweaking. If they were higher in the standings maybe they go after some bigger fish.
Mackey wasn’t going anywhere as Gilbert took his spot. and Duehr supplanted Ritchie. Zohorna had his cup of tea and did nothing.

If you want to blame someone blame the players for underperforming and tying treliving’s hands.

This looks promising on paper. A better Ritchie. Many time I feel lime if Brett had some finish he’d of been a 10+ goal guy on the 4th line. This looks lime Ritchie 2.0. Stecher is an NHL player. I hope he has some wheels and has stronf positional play. I am guessing must at 5’10 with minimal scoring.

If Ritchie had a contract for next year, I think this would be a win but I’m just not sure what picking up an upcoming UFA does for a team that isn’t likely destined to make the playoffs. It’s a bit of a strange trade to me.

It's an audition, basically. For the team and the players. If there's a fit both ways and they want to come back next season, great. If they want to leave, not a big deal. And if they manage to play well for the remainder of the season and the team goes on a bit of a run for a playoff push then it's a bonus. The Flames basically gave up nothing anyways.

Sounds like the Flames have been interested in the player for a while. The trade lets the team try on the player and the player try on the team. Maybe they like what they see and there's a re-signing for next year. (And maybe they sign BOTH Ritchie boys !!)

I wonder when they get in the lineup? Probably in next week's games after they are around the team for a while and learn the system.

I dont see how anybody can complain about this deal.
Some new players that seem to be upgrades on the ones we gave up injected into the lineup of a team that just hasnt been able to put anything together.

If it doesnt work what did we lose?

If suddenly this little bump gets them a win or two and makes them get some confidence into their game, well...

We are 5 points out right now. Anything can still happen.
