Who of the masses that over reacted in the first 4-5 pages of this topic see they
a) may have jumped early
b) may have jumped early in the past
c) may think twice about jumping early in the future

Guessing crickets.

Accept your fate, the season's lost, and give some kids a chance down the stretch by casting off some veterans, and probably give yourself a decent shot at sliding into a top-10 draft selection.
Wouldn't you say it's beneficial to have those kids competing for a Calder cup? I feel they don't want to strip that team down when they can play for a championship. They will then have that experience and can compete for a roster spot next training camp.

If Markstrom has shaken the bad mojo they will be no where near a top ten pick I feel. But I guess I also don't buy that the mojo is gone either.

Was hoping to sell but Treliving found a way to improve the team and do it spending no draft picks. Both are UFAs so it doesn't kill the cap next year either.

Not a great day but could have been worse.

I mean, maybe, maybe not, but in the poste I quoted, Enoch Root said he believes it makes the team better (I actually do agree), so why get upset?

So the idea was I tried to explain why some people wouldn't like it.

I think Mackey will be a fine NHL player, his issues with Flames were mostly around confidence and playing afraid.
Still, easy win for us in the trade

For me I'd sooner see how they look against NHL competition if they've earned the callup. Not sure how the AHL schedule stacks up against the NHL...couldn't the callups still play in the Wranglers playoffs?

I think they could but I'm not sure either.

And a team in the top ten has a shot at Bedard. A team outside of it does not.
As an analytics guy - I'm assuming you know this isn't true in any way. Its rearranging the deck chairs. Swapping 4th liners and 6th d aren't going to add 3 points to any team. Ritchie has to replace Lewis or Lucic to get into the line-up so who knows if he even plays.

Stetcher over Gilbert is perhaps a small difference - but its not adding 3 points in 20 games.

I agree, the Flames legitimately improved after this trade.

But this is a lost season. I don't think any team sitting 5 points out at the TDL (and worse if you considers points %) has ever made the playoffs in that same year.

Just lose.
I see this as the only possible way a GM with a decent roster in a crazy season can add and show faith in a roster without mortgaging any future at all.

This is "go get it guys" without spending assets to support that.

The human side of things would see that as a pretty decent landing spot.

Probably what I'm most excited about here is Mackey getting another shot to push Valimaki down the depth chart.

I think the Flames improved with this move. Mackey wasn’t anything special here so Arizona wants to see if he can be something there. The flames get a right shot 3rd pair guy and an offensive upgrade for the 4th line. Nick Ritchie was destined to be a Flame.

You don't need to be on team rebuild to see that direction is most logical at this point, as it still has eyes on winning next season.
This does not limit their ability to give some kids a chance at all - it's literally 2 guys for two other guys

And it isn't a lack of forward thinking, it is just thinking about things that YOU don't want to think about.

Nick Ritchie is a possible replacement for Lucic next season, and this will be aan opportunity to see how he fits.

Maybe part of the motivation for bringing in Stetcher was to see how he does with the group, and if he’s a fit bring him back next year for the bottom pair.
