All his big pieces are 2024 UFAs, not 2023, and I've gone over and over why these are not easy contracts to move at this time. And why the evaluation has been skewed due to goaltending anyway.
Your last sentence is pretty key though. What is a fair offer for Lindholm? I'd say more than any player so far.

What other 2024 UFAs who make $4-6M have been traded for big returns? The market is limited and will expand in June.

So Flames' strategy today was essentially do nothing, without doing nothing?
Seems like time well spent.

I’m not surprised at all, as days ago when there were no rumours it indicated a little they’d be looking to give these guys a vote of confidence. Looks to be true. On one hand, I’m glad they didn’t sink more into a sinking ship. On the other hand knowing it’s a sinking ship, and the market being hot in previous days really they should have been smarter to unload some pending FAs while they could. This is why we’re middling.

The Carolina one is surprising to me.
Feels like that was the most natural fit to the Flames to me, but sounds like they weren't willing to move anything.
Colorado not making another trade is a big surprise too - rumors were they wanted to push all in for one more year while MacKinnon is still cheap.
Also surprised by Winnipeg. Hellebuyck is a UFA in 18 months...at some point you need to try to win with that group and try to add to them.
Actually all of the West was a failure to me - there is no real good team in the West. Somebody should have pushed the chips in (I actually didn't love Edmonton's moves which were kind of lateral too Bjugstad = Puljujarvi, Ekholm > Barrie but not by what they paid for the upgrade)

There are the pending FAs:
Lucic - NMC and no one wants him.
Lewis - no one wants him. I like him but everyone has a Lewis.
Ritchie - no one wants him. Everyone has a Ritchie
Stone - hurt
Mackey - no one wants him, plus he's RFA with arb rights anyway
Duehr - don't trade this guy.
2024 UFAs they have. But those guys are a lot harder to move versus in the off season, plus I don't think they want to move them anyway.
I think their strategy is to write off this season as cratered by bad goaltending and try again with Markstrom hopefully rebounding and with Wolf in the wings.

Agreed on the Jets. Are they too dismayed by their late crash to make any moves? Are they counting on injury returnees? They added Nino and Namestikov but surely they need D depth and maybe an improvement at backup G.

I’m not disagreeing with you but regarding Markstrom he’s done. Mentally he’s broken since last playoffs. Going at it again next year with hopes he recovers is madness. I’d jettison him out.

Good post.
Lucic, Lewis and Stone walk as UFAs; maybe Stone for minimum signs again in the summer.
Mackey and Ritchie out.
Duehr likely gets a show me deal.

I'm relatively pleased with the Flames' deadline. I was one of the people pushing to trade older players for futures. However, I can accept maintaining the status quo, which is basically what the Flames did. What I would not have been happy about is paying futures for older players.
I say that the Flames basically maintained the status quo because neither deal is a headliner. The Dryden Hunt trade is a nothing burger. That said, I actually like the other trade quite a bit. I see it as Nick being an upgrade on Brett and Stetcher being an upgrade on Mackie.

A lot of goalies have rebounded after a bad year. And if he is as "done" as you're insisting, who would want to trade for him? Are you preparing to attach a first to get rid of him?

I'd find him a really good sports psychologist who can help him get his confidence back.
