The burger, the sauce, the entire restaurant, it's all pure garbage. These big chains have done a great job of utilizing social media to get people going over their junk, though. Their biggest success has been taking popular items off the menu and bringing them back twice a year with insane fanfare as they go "ITTTTT'S BAAACCKKKKK!!".

Whoever mentioned J Spot in the Avenida Food Hall, I think that is legitimately the best burger I've ever had in Calgary. They nail the cheese on the burger, that's a texture I haven't experienced on a burger before. And the fries? Just soooooo good.

The J Spot Burger I assume? That's what I had. I have eaten a lot of burgers over the decades and agree with you that the cheese crust is brilliant.

Off topic here, but the Avenida food hall might secretly be the best place to eat in the city. The Mexican place has probably the best tacos I've eaten in Calgary.

It's unbelievable. So glad they made it through the last few years. I'm surprised how many times I have mentioned it to people, and they haven't heard of it.

Tried J Spot last week. Got the J Spot burger, Dirty fries and drinks. Came out to $55 or something like that. It was good, but that was quite expensive. Didn't realize the Dirty Fries was a meal in itself.

I tried J Spot on Friday based on reviews in here.
I can see why some would like it, but it wasn't really my thing.

First Street Market is my geographical limit for food halls. The East Indian place has an amazing crepe dish.

Tried J Spot as well this weekend. It was good, no doubt - nothing wrong with it per se. But the sauce had a "seafoody" undertone to me that I didn't love. Not sure what it was. But fries? Yeah - excellent. And the whole market is a pretty great spot - hadn't been before but will definitely be back.

Was pleasantly surprised with The King Edward this weekend. The chicken sandwich was good and the drinks were good too.
Quick jaunt to game make it a winner.
Will do again next time.

I tried J Spot this weekend as well. I'm with _Q_'s thoughts overall. Personally, I thought the bun and the cheese crisp was good. But the burger was lacking a bit of substance to the beef, either it needs more beef, or better seasoning. But I was not a fan of the fries. Truffle by default and they were bigger than I like and are essentially overcooked to my taste. In the back of my mind, I was like, I can just go over to Shawnessy and get Five Guys and at the very least I'll get better fries, and a lot more of them
It's been a bit since I've done Lil Empire. I'll go back shortly to cement where they rank for me.

Is Boogies Burgers still good? I’m visiting next month and thinking of hitting that.

Boogies gets bonus points for atmosphere if you're eating in, too. It has a naturally crafted vibe that feels genuine, unlike too many new Calgary restaurants that try to force some type of hipster/trendy/faux upscale vibe into their restaurant/bar ideas.

Yeah I think I may have to go try this one:
LEO'S CHEESY BREW BURGER
Our new burger of the month! House-made burger patty, whisky marinated cheese curds, beer battered onion rings, arugula and garlic mayo on a house bun. Served with a side of beer cheese sauce for dipping.
Available at all locations, every day in March.
