I also think there are some things I would have done differently, and would do now, but I of course have no idea what the offers are, nor what the true edict from on high is.
I.e. I would look to trade Toffoli if I could get a 1st and another asset, like a 2nd or no lower than a B-prospect. I would not trade him just for the sake of it.
I would trade Lewis for a 4th or better, but would probably keep him if the offer was worse than that.
I would not trade Lindy unless I knew he was not going to sign here. Same with Dube. I have Hanifin in this boat as well.
Mangiapane I would look at if the price was right, but I think the offer would have to be a clear win to do it, otherwise I keep him, as his goals would be hard to replace. If I have a guaranteed 25 goals coming in for cheaper (Zary? Coronato? That's a lot to ask a rookie), then it is a deal I make, but not sure I know I have that coming in, so where do the goals come from?

I would trade Tanev for a decent deal, though he'd be missed. His play will decline IMO. Backlund is a really tough one too. And Zadorov is a guy I think teams might want, but he seems to still be on an upward curve play-wise.

So this season will now finish with no trades at the deadline, team goes on a hot streak, now that marky's wife has given birth, but we still miss the playoffs by a point or two, giving us a worse draft pick.
Sounds about right for the flames.

Yeah, my decisions would be based on age, and willingness to re-sign. We have a ton of UFAs after next year, as everyone knows. We sure as hell can't keep everyone.

Aside from Lindholm, I would be listening to offers on any of the other 5 UFA’s with the intent of possibly moving one, or two, of them. it seems to me, having 6 UFA’s to deal with this offseason/next season is a bit too much. I’m not sure that’s a great position to be in.Best to start addressing that now.
That said, Treliving would be smart to not take ‘what he can get’. If a move makes sense today, you do it. Also, conversations today can lead to consummating deals down the road. If the Flames do not make a trade today, I won’t be buying into the predictable and lazy narrative that they ‘did nothing’.

I love how "Iamnotkenking" is responding to my post in a positive way after I provided them with my opinion.
However, this jackass doesn't stop. Speaking of kiddie pools, can you please add a pool? I am definitely living rent free in your head, which is nice. However, a swimming pool would be great.

I left Tanev out as I don't see anyone giving adequate replacement cost for him. He's "worth" more than what I think the market will pay (yes, I understand the market dictates his worth), and without him, our D is terribad.
Big Zed, too, as replacing him costs more than $3.75MM, and there is no natural replacement in the system or out there that I see at a lower cap hit.
I don't see anyone giving us what Backs is worth to us, either, and that truly screws our centre slotting. Without him, our next C (again, Zary?, maybe Rosie?) gets caved in defensively.

I think the biggest let down by the Flames not doing anything outside of getting assets we could REALLY REALLY use the fact we should be using these last 15-20 games to call up some guys and see what we have for next year.
This because we're going to need at minimum 2-3 ELC type contracts if we dont make moves.
Give Zary a look
Give Wolf a look
Phillips likely doesnt re-sign with Flames org so no point
Maybe a Ben Jones?
Not clearing out bottom 6 bloat is killing us, there's really no excuse a Ritchie/Lewis/Rooney type guy hasnt been moved for a 4-6th.

Keeping Lewis and Lucic at least helps the tank if you keep them on the ice. Their contributions could be invaluable.

The schedule is also pretty soft down the stretch - so I wouldn't be surprised for them to go a bit of a run and still fall short for sure.

At this point the best course of action is to do nothing. No trades, don't call up anyone. Maybe even send down Pelletier Try to get as low in the standings as possible. This current team needs fixing but it's too late in the season. Let them suffer the year out and get a higher puck. The odds of dropping low enough to win a shot at Bedard are low but getting into the top 10 is better than picking #16.

It’s soft but IIRC when they showed it last night of the 5 teams with the softest schedule 3 are teams they’re chasing. Run or not the Flames are likely ending the year 5-9 points out of the playoffs

We need to not confuse those of us who frequent this board and our buddies as what ALL Flames fans think or will put up with. The Young Guns era almost killed this team.

Flames will stand pat, Tre will come out and say he believes in this group and that next season they expect to be more competitive with the players we have, lot's of one-goal losses, great locker room, these guys are pro's, they're pissed off and expecting more of themselves blah blah blah.
Missing the opportunity to gather more picks for this draft is just such a Flames thing to do when the season has slipped between our fingers already. Even the crowd who thinks that doing nothing is the best way to go.. do you really think this team as currently constructed is a threat to win the cup next season compared to Colorado, the McDavid's, or the Beast's in the East? Cause I don't.. we need to draft our own top tier players but that's a laughable idea in this market according to Brad and co. So beyond frustrating watching this franchise toil in mediocrity again and again.
Still just under two hours for Brad to make my post look incredibly stupid, please go right ahead sir.

Throwing millions upon millions of dollars at players that have never worn the jersey or played in the system is not caring about winning. Its lazy and a bandaid for what is necessary to building a sustainable winner.

I think Lindholm is one of the most likley candidates to not want to re-sign. Plus, he's lost his linemates (hell, 3 of them) who he had big time success with. He justifiably probably feels underpaid at the moment, whereas Backlund, Tanev, Hanifin, Dube, Toffoli are paid right around where they deserve to be.
Hanifin's American so there's that concern. Toffoli is a guy who's been on a bunch of teams so moving's not a big deal to him either.
