I don't want to trade Backs but those of you who do will be happy to know that I have been sitting on a signed Backlund jersey to auction at our year end banquet.
So, he gone.
(Not a rumor)

It's not the end of the world if they don't move any players by today but it would be nice to even get a 4th or even 5th round pick for Lucic or Lewis.

Fan 960 just had Jason Bukala on.
I dont think I've ever heard an "insider" let alone one who was previously an NHL scout have such little input/knowledge than this guy.
Every answer to every question was "uh oh geez, thats a good one" followed by "you know its really hard to imagine"
You could also tell his knowledge of the Flames team is almost non-existent as when asked about what the Flames should do answered:
- Flames should run it back
- Nothing wrong with the team they have proven champions
- Cant trade Hanifin the guys 25 and a proven winner
- Toffoli will score 25 again so its better he does it on the Flames than another team
- Mentioned Toffoli to Carolina might get you a 2nd round pick (Spit my coffee out)
- Maybe could trade Lucic to a contender looking to add muscle
- Answers are in the room, dont do anything
- Then follows it up with how deep the draft is and that getting extra picks would be smart for an organization
I normally don't listen, now I know why... what a train wreck that guy is.
D tier insiderrrrrrs on the 960 today.

The run it back concept just doesn’t sit well with me, given that so many key pieces are expiring after next season.

I always get a good laugh at posts like this. The Flames are about to miss the playoff for the 9th time in the past 13 years and it's like some of you expect fans to be high fiving and discussing how exciting the final stretch will be with their miniscule chances to make the playoffs. Things are great lol.

We cant run it back, because we dont have the cap space.
You take today's roster and subtract the UFA's the FLames have almost negative space and I think 3-4 roster spots to fill.
That means those spots need to be filled by guys making less than 1M.
Yea.. good luck.
Typical Flames move:
- Too much love for your players
- Dont trade guys coming off career years when you could get more for them
- hold onto them until UFA year and then get nothing
- draft 18-32nd and or trade it away on a "depth guy"
- Continue thinking that grizzled slow vets who won cups 5+ years ago are the solution

I always get a kick out of the same posters posting the same thing repeatedly like they haven't said it ten thousand times and somehow the ten thousandth and one time will force the team to sell everything. It's the repeated miserable posts that I get a kick out of. Honestly I feel some posters (not you) just copy and paste the same thing over and over and over. Last night many were hoping for a loss then miserable when it happened. Kinda funny if you think about it.

At the same time though, suggesting that some people are expecting fans to be "high fiving" each other for this season is such an extreme exagerration that it also gives people a good laugh.
The extreme exaggerations hurt the argument.
On an unrelated note, the content on the FAN 590 in the mornings is really top notch. They cover all Canadian teams as well as the other ones that have something to talk about on that day. 960 could do the same but their programming is less focused on the NHL it seems which for me at least, sucks.

Yeah, the Flames absolutely have to make some wiggle room regardless of the outcome of the season.
I do believe if they do it right they can have the best of both worlds. Just have to believe that some youth come in and further ignite the main roster. Clear the baffles, bring in the 3 or 4 kids Daryl identified on the farm as ready (yes he did say that when asked about trades) and let things fall where they may.
At best you make the playoffs on a heater, and at also best, you gain some ground on a high pick.
At this point there's no downside to making room for the rest of the kids. They get a good stretch of games in to understand what they need to do for the off-season to make the team next year. Daryl gets to figure some things out hands on. And the GM can stay or leave as he wishes without hampering things.
Make the trades. There's no downside.

This. We've been watching mediocre hockey from the Flames for years. We'll get those outlier seasons (19, 22) that make it seem like they've finally turned the corner, only for them to disappoint in the playoffs. Two playoff series wins since the last time the team made it to the cup finals is gonna naturally cause people to have a doomer mindset towards the team. I do think posters who let the Flames effect their mental health so negatively to the point it's impacting their regular day lives should take a break from the team and CP and try to focus on stuff outside of hockey. We as fans can only hope for the best. We don't have control over what happens with the team

"run it back" also is typically used after a team wins a championship.
It's a bit of an odd take, considering the Flames were knocked out in the 2nd round with a team much better than this one.
The Flames have been a middling franchise since 2004...they've moved beyond the 1st round twice (?) in those 19 years.
This "process" imo isn't bearing any fruit if the metric is to win the Stanley Cup...but sure try for the 20th year because 'anything can happen'

I bet we do almost nothing.. run back almost the same team. And all of us will just keep paying for streaming services, tickets, merchandise and concessions.
Really the ownership has no reason to change their ways.
Oh and the province will pay a cpl 100 million for a new areana.
Lol

If some posters are saying the same stuff over and over and you don't care for their insight then I would advise simply to put them on ignore. I don't even post in the game threads much anymore because they end up being sidetracked with constant bickering between both sides of the coin. It's been a really, really frustrating season. There's not been a lot of fun to be had and I can't fault anyone for venting.

LOL this post is so ridiculous. I didn't make an argument. It's a fact is the season has sucked and fans have a right to be unhappy.

Honestly I can't remember a season since I've followed this team where it's been more obvious they should sell off at the deadline. At no point this year have they had any sustained good play, a game or two here, a game or two there, that's it. Goaltending has been consistently terrible and the offence has never found any chemistry. Kadri is singular, Huberdeau looks lost, they've had zero chemistry all year.
They're as middling as middling could be.
Toffoli is having one of his best seasons ever and we could easily recoup what he acquired him for a year ago. If you retain on him it could be a sizable hall. He's been excellent this season. Lewis is an excellent depth piece for a contender expecting a long playoff run. It's a sellers market and he could get a mid round pick, no doubt. Retain on Lucic and a contending team is going to love his size, leadership and playoff experience.
Lindholm could be a massive return but I'd prefer to keep him and see what we can do in the off season, Backluid lesser on the return obviously but for me is a forever a Flame guy, like Regehr, and I'd like to see him finish here.
It's the most obvious thing in the world, and we didn't need another one goal loss last night to prove that.

Well it beats your constant whining in this forum about other posters. I don't understand why people can't turn away and just focus on what they have to say. Not what others have to say. This place would be so much better if people could focus on what they have to say and let others have their say.

Imagine being a hockey person, watching this team all year and thinking “ya, we could compete with Dallas or Colorado or Vegas”.

9 times in 13 years.
Yeesh.
You can't even blame GM/Treliving for that anymore.
That's on ownership.
I'm not a Treliving fan, but I think if ownership had more of a realistic, long term building mindset, they would've directed Treliving to do that, pr bring in someone new to do so.
Until Edwards finally gives up on the philosophy of just making the playoffs and hope for the best, this franchise is going nowhere.
The goal is to win the cup, not just do enough to get eliminated in the first round, and maybe win a round once a decade.
I also find it interesting how the Flames still do have a president of hockey ops since Burke left. Their really should be a good quality hockey mind running the ship there. They would probably have more sway in convincing Edwards and ownership this is the way.

Does anyone know the last time the Flames won 3 games in a row? Or even 2?
