"The Flames could do nothing, could do something".

I can't believe some of these insiders are paid to do what they do sometimes. Some of the things they say are such generalized schlock, non-committal and base covering its just cringe. Making statements for the sake of statements. Frustrating.

Here's a statement. Better to shut your mouth and look like a fool than open it and remove all doubt.

I’d bet this is exactly what is going on. The Flames are listening, gaging the market, but unless something comes along they can’t say no to, I think they will mostly stand pat.

yeah the Flames have no pressure point here...if someone blows the doors off take it. Don't just do something to do something

worst case the Flames miss the playoffs and have a pretty good 2023 pick...better than the 8 teams out in round one (many of them won't have a pick at all) and the Flames will still have Hanifin, Lindholm, ect. in the summer if they want to make moves

He did provide Intel. The flames don't know what they're doing yet. That's the main takeaway.
Being directionless at this point is pretty concerning.

I have heard it thousand of times on here.. but how did the Orange Julius thing come up initially? Did someone actually provide a rumor after overhearing folks in a line-up there? Or just something that was made up and has stuck.

Reminds me of the Raptors during their deadline.. of course, the 2 teams I cheer for and could have been major players at the deadline.

My memory is a little fuzzy, but I think it goes back to when Iginla was set to become a pending free agent, and someone, an Oilers fan I believe, said they were waiting in line at an Orange Julius and overheard that he was buying a home in Edmonton and was planning to sign there.

I could be off on some of the details, but I think basically someone said they heard a rumour at an Orange Julius stand and it became a meme on here.

Haha, holy overreaction.

Someone doing radio and podcast hits all over, all day, every day. The discussion shifts to Calgary and he says exactly what’s true and what he should say if he doesn’t know anything specific. He didn’t tweet it.

Flames could do nothing. Flames could do something.

I want to believe management isn't so fickle that they would make their organizational plan based on the result of a Thursday game vs the Leafs

Now that I don’t agree with. But Friedman’s speculations were attached to this opinion. Which is what the thread is about

To me it seems that the Flames obviously aren't buying, and IMO aren't "Selling" in the traditional sense either.

There is no real pinch point yet that they need to move on from these 2024 contracts as they are all good value and are players that are key parts of the team.

So the only way they move them is if it's for a hockey trade that makes more sense longer term for the team, or if it's for an overpayment.

I guess- but wouldn't it make sense to trade some of these players while they have a ton of value? It seems like the Flames keep holding on too long.

What if a guy like Toffoli is stuck on 10 goals next year by the deadline. Some of these players are getting older - time to capitalize while they are having some of their best seasons.

Not a significant difference and would be worth it to get rid of Markstrom.

Out of goalies that have played a minimum of 10 games this season Quick ranks 72nd out of 74 for goals saved above expected. The only 2 worse than him are Spencer Martin and Elvis Merzlikins.

Vladar is 65th and Markstrom is 49th.

I still think Markstrom can rebound next season with a mental reset. I would be more than willing to trade Vladar for a mid round pick though. It would be great to get Wolf some games this year and run with him and Markstrom next season.

Flames have no pressure to sell right now. If they do not like any of the offers they can just trade these players in the summer or in a year. But, teams like canes have pressure to buy, can they really compete with the east now after all the additions, I do not think so. Lindholm or Backlund would certainly help this and next year, what other teams can get them a center like that with low cap hit (50% retained)? I think Tre is hoping they panic buy

It would be cool if there was an archive of the origins of CalgaryPuck memes

We also know from many insiders including the top ones like Lebrun and Bobby Mac that the Flames and Treliving are in on everything.

So what SEC214 provided yesterday and the summary of information seems right on brand with how this team operates.

I also don’t see it as the Flames doing ‘nothing’. Deals can sometimes take months to come to fruition. Hypothetically the Flames could be talking trade now with a specific team but the deal might not get done until the draft. That’s doesn’t mean the time spent now, negotiating the trade, is a waste.
