Lol. We are not moving Kadri. He just signed. Flames are certainly not retaining for 7 years.

Yeah you’re not getting necas even if they offer Lindholm at 50 % retained . Not to mention if they want to bring in a Lindholm, it’s not to send necas out of town. It’s for Lindholm to play on the same line as necas.

Lindholm is great when he has elite top 10 talent around him. Without that, he looked pretty damn pedestrian.

I’m not saying dump the guy, but with his final contract likely upcoming, I wouldn’t want to give him a top line C 30 year old long term deal. Maximize the frigin asset for once cgy!

Lindholm (50% retained) + 2023 4th to Carolina for Jarvis + Gunler + 2023 2nd

Who says no?

I love Lindy. But he isn’t a #1 center on a contending team. He’s more of a very good #2 center. Kadri, Huberdeau and Weegar are already locked up into their late 30’s, do the Flames really need to add another retirement contract to that group? Especially seeing that him and Huby can’t seem to develop any chemistry with each other

I would try to keep Lindholm on a 4 year extension but anything longer it's time to shop him.

Same goes for Backlund Toffoli and Tanev. We won't be signing those guys and this season is a lost cause time to think about the team and the future.

Then you are shopping him. Why would Lindholm take a 4 year contract unless the AAV was dumb.

Interesting to read some of the trade reaction at the Athletic. The Penguin's GM, Ron Hextall, was carved up by the Pittsburgh writers. Literally calling for his job. The Vancouver writers (I know, I know) are unimpressed with the Hronek deal and aren't hiding that fact. It's refreshing.
The Alberta teams haven't had to worry much about backlash from the local media. Too many sycophants not wanting to bite the hand that feeds them I suppose.

Not this.

People are going to have a real hard time when they realise how hard it is to acquire a 1st line centre as good as “very good #2 center Elias Lindholm.”

There’s pretty much only 1 way you end up with a chance to get a centre better than Elias Lindholm…

If this team deals Lindholm, it’s the clearest marker you can get that it’s a full rebuild with some tanking likely involved.

I know it’s not easy to find centers like Lindholm. He’s the best center we’ve had since Nieuwendyk. But do we realistically want more guys locked up into their late 30’s? I just don’t think it’s worth the risk. Maybe I’m wrong and he’s like Pavelski and he’s a stud until he’s 40. But I just think it’s better for the Flames to get younger in the long run

We need to start cutting down the term in contracts and if it means a higher aav so be it.

Lindholm’s next contract will likely be 7 years $9 million’ish (+/- half a million).

What we need to be doing is bringing in younger talent to grow with the team. Take some of these players that we cant either sign long term or don’t fit into long term growth and turn them into skilled prospects and high end pics. Lindholm, Toffoli, Hanifin, and Backlund would fit into this category.
