They were holding out for 2 1sts and a 2nd. I am pretty confident you could trade this Ottawa pick, which looks like a 10-15 selection, and one of the 2nds they got for two low 1sts.

I doubt Nashville could trade all of those picks for just the Ottawa first that Phx got. The value of picks goes down quickly in the early rounds.

You aren't trading a 1st and a 2nd for low 1sts.

They held out the prices dropped and they didn't get why they want.

Comparable to what Ekholm got.

Not remotely. Nashville took back a cap dump that they'll likely have to use one of their retention slots for this year and next to flip. The first-rounder they got will be much lower.

Wait, so the condition is the the 2nd becomes a 1st of Ottawa makes the ECF this year?!? Dorion was probably laughing to himself as they put that condition in.

You can keep saying not remotely but it still isn't a great trade and Ottawa got the better of the trade.

Coyotes are not a well run franchise that's why guys like this want out.

You can still trade two 3rds or whatever and move up in later rounds for guys you want.

Not every star is drafted in the 1st round.

All this waiting and Arizona got one more 2nd than the Wings got for Hronek.

Good deal for Ottawa who is now moved 2 straight 1sts for mid 20’s win now pieces. Their team looks on the cusp of being a tough team if they can get a goalie.

Not saying that they should or shouldn’t have done it but I would be surprised if the Flames wouldn’t have offered basically this package assuming they could make the cap work in another move. Pretty sure this team has wanted Chychrun for a while.

Good for the sens. Keep in mind, in a tougher conference and still only 4 pts behind the Flames. There is likely not a big difference between the two clubs. That is the sad part.

Not every star is drafted in the 1st round.

Probability dictates that you are better off having 1 first round pick then 2 3rd rounders though if that is your aim. Or even if you aim is simply to get an NHL body. In both cases you have a better chance with the first rounder.

I'm not so sure about that. Both the Oilers and Senators could end up as first round fodder. Picks might end up being 2 spots apart.

Unless you're hoping for Edmonton to improve...

That 1st rounder could turn into anyone. It might even turn into a player as good as chychrun! What is Ottawa thinking

The condition of Ottawa makes the 2023 ECF is frickin laughable though. 0 chance.

Wonder how Chychrun and Chabot share ice time, they’re both big minute munchers.
Swing and a miss on your analysis! “Continue to stumble” wtf are you talking about. Top ten team in the league since Dec 1. Had a stumble in November, nothing since. And why would Arizona want them to “continue to stumble”, which they aren’t. If Ottawa did fall hard, they keep their pick in 2023 as the pick is protected. Also, one of Chabot/Chychrun/Sanderson will move to the right side so time distribution won’t be an issue. The 2023 ECF thing is nothing better than a bit of a marketing sweetener for Arizona, also why the hell wouldn’t Arizona want the possibility of upgrading a second round pick - no downside for them whatsoever.

I mean, it's weird enough getting closet Oiler fans on this board, but a closet Senators fan? Why?

Honestly, I dont think it is that much of an underpayment. Chycrun needs to stay healthy for the Sens to win this deal.

I would rather have a 2023 10-15 pick than 2x 26th picks or something. Sens pick has far more value than other rumored teams
