Hronek is ok but is more offense than defense from the back end. This is his first moderately good defensive season. Could be wings selling high as they see it.
Damn, Yzerman is a sexy gm.

Shortest rebuild in history. You have to give it to the Canucks. Just yesterday they were unloading d-men for picks, now they are buyers flipping first rounders for depth d-men.

I feel like this doesn't make sense for the Canucks specifically because they have Hughes taking all the big offensive minutes and teams typically play 4 forwards on the PP, so Hronek would be bumped to PP2. Will he be as productive as the 2nd offensive option for D?

I can see Detroit maybe flipping the assets for Chychrun? But this makes less than no sense for the Canucks.

Horvat was 27 their leading scorer and wanted to sign
I get trading him for a pretty decent first but then to trade that for a 25 year old with one good season

Hronek also has arbitration rights next summer. In theory, this could get ugly for the Canucks.

Team as been desperate for a young RHD for years and NYI looks like their pick will defer to next year.

He will be 26 early next season...his first meaningful one for the Canucks
Just got rid of 27 year old leading goal scorer to "re-tool" or whatever
Islanders are far from a playoff lock, looks 50/50 at best when games played is considered

I don't really get it for either side.
Hronek has been good for Detroit and was seen as one of their core d-men. They appear to want to take the next step but then made this deal.
Funny enough when he was paired with Olli Matta / Jake Walman that was seen as their best pairing earlier this year, and Seider was really struggling paired with Chiarot. Then they moved Hronek with Chiarot, put Seider with Walman and Walman has really taken off, and Hronek has struggled a bit. Maybe just stop playing these young guys with the anchor that is Chiarot.
For Vancouver it makes no sense to be moving the pick you got for Horvat right now, and not for a piece that isn't an elite piece.

With Chychrun confirmed to Ottawa now, what is going on behind the curtain with this trade? Could it be that Quinn Hughes is going somewhere else and Hronek is the replacement?
