Probably the floor for Lindholm’s extension I think, even though Larkin is a significantly more dangerous offensive talent.

This makes sense. Detroit has struggled to find centres during their rebuild, so losing Larkin really wasn't an option for them - he's also their friggin' Captain.

Detroit would also be a good home for Lindholm, I'd say. Larkin + Lindholm as a 1-2 punch would be impressive.

This will be a good comparable for Lindholm extension.

Very good player and a very fair deal. Always liked Larkin

Based on him leading the wings in scoring (or p/g in one season where he didn’t play all games) the last 6 seasons, a couple times by double digit points. Larkin is the big dog that other teams are matching up against.

That’s not to say Lindholm isn’t providing equal value with his defensive contributions but he’s not “the guy” you need to watch out for when playing against the flames. Unfortunately, nobody is right now. :/

I recall seeing something a month or two ago that Yzerman wasn't happy with Larkin's asking price and was preparing for huge changes if negotiations don't change. I wonder what Larkin's initial ask was as I feel that this contract is great value and favours Detroit.

I think things just become that much easier when other teams do comparable deals first.

The moment Horvat signed his deal, it then created a range for Larkin - so while Larkin may have been "I'm worth $10M!" that argument goes out the window once Horvat shows up at $8.5M

Its pretty hard to say he is significantly better offensively when his career high is less than Lindholm

Calgary isn't exactly an easy place to put up points this season either

To be fair when has Larkin ever had a chance to play with elite wingers like Gaudreau and Tkachuk or play on a half decent team even?

seems like a fair deal to me after Horvat got $8.5m.

think that sets the stage pretty well for Lindholm. I know there's quite a few people on here who want to go into full sell mode, but Lindholm is one I would love to keep around if the numbers make sense. RH centers who play in all situations and put up great numbers don't exactly grow on trees.

I think this is a solid contract when you consider the salary cap will likely rise. He's only 26 and should be a very good player for most of this contract.

Great contract structure, wish the Flames would do that with their long term contracts. Makes guy way easier to dump late in the deal.

Solid deal for Detroit. Larkin takes a discount for sure.
