The underlying shot rates are almost identical.
The chart I posted shows thay. Everything except for low danger shots against is within 0.5 shots per game of last year.
Clutch is just a different term for luck IMO.

The team is what it is, most of the guys have been performing the same the last 3 yrs. Only exception was last year their top guys Johnny and Tkachuk carried them. This year, the top guys failed miserably.

Agreed. Ullmark have up the puck in the slot in the third and the flames couldn't capitalize. Every team gives up grade A chances.
The problem isn't the grade A's. It's the grade B's, C's and sometimes D's that the Flames goalies can't stop.

I actually see this different. I think the players are good enough to be a playoff team, including the tenders. I see an old tired coach that stubbornly is sticking with a system that leaves the goalies exposed and the centers committed to getting back on defence instead of creating down low. This approach leads to production of a ton of low danger shots from the perimeter. Line choice and general favouritism is a coaching issue. PP is a coaching issue. D coverage is a coaching issue. Put all that together with his general grumpiness and there’s no joy in Mudville. There’s a tentativeness to the whole team. The coach is supposed to bring out the best in the players. That’s not happening and there have been no adjustments - not in game and not all season. Sutter always eventually loses the room. I think it just happened quicker this time.

They didn't give up many but two of the chances were more than grade A. They were guaranteed goals. And Markstrom absolutely robbed the Bruins in OT earlier.
Vladar sucked balls though.

And he’d been making incredible passes all night. Open ice shots are almost never the right play in OT. Probably moreso when a goalie has no stick. It was a very nice stick that stopped it.

Yeah, and Markstrom but I think he performs better with a big lead. he folds under pressure more often than not
